Job Description

The Director of Partnership, Strategy and Development will play a critical leadership role in driving MSI Ethiopia’s strategic growth and sustainability. This position will lead the development and implementation of strategic partnerships, oversee strategic planning processes, and drive resource mobilization efforts. The Director will be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to the overall strategic direction of the organization.

About You

Key Responsibilities:

Partnership Development & Management:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive partnership strategy aligned with MSI Ethiopia’s strategic goals.
  • Identify, cultivate, and manage strategic partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, private sector entities, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Negotiate and manage partnership agreements, ensuring clear roles, responsibilities, and deliverables.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key partners, fostering collaboration and mutual accountability.
  • Represent MSI Ethiopia at relevant forums and events, promoting the organization’s work and building strategic alliances.

Strategic Planning & Development:

  • Lead the development and implementation of MSI Ethiopia’s strategic plan, ensuring alignment with organizational mission and goals.
  • Conduct strategic analysis and environmental scans to identify emerging trends and opportunities.
  • Facilitate strategic planning workshops and retreats, engaging key stakeholders in the process.
  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of the strategic plan, providing regular updates to the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Support the development of new program initiatives and proposals, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.

Resource Mobilization:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive resource mobilization strategy to diversify funding sources and ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with potential donors, including bilateral and multilateral agencies, foundations, and private sector partners.
  • Lead the development of high-quality proposals and grant applications, ensuring compliance with donor requirements.
  • Manage donor relationships, providing regular reports and updates on program progress.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of resource mobilization efforts.

Leadership & Management:

  • Provide strategic leadership and guidance to the Partnership, Strategy and Development team.
  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and high performance.
  • Contribute to the overall strategic direction of MSI Ethiopia as a member of the Senior Management Team.
  • Ensure compliance with MSI Ethiopia’s policies and procedures.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications & experience:

  • Master’s degree in international relations, business administration, international development, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in partnership development, strategic planning, and resource mobilization, preferably in the health sector.
  • Proven track record of developing and managing successful partnerships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of the Ethiopian development context and the SRH landscape.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management experience.
  • Fluency in English and Amharic (written and spoken) is essential.
  • Experience in donor relations and grant management.
