About the Role:

PxD is seeking for a Digital Agriculture Associate to join a high-performing, flexible, and non-hierarchical team. In this role, you will support the design, implementation, and refinement of digital agriculture services that leverage technology, data, and behavioral insights to improve outcomes for smallholder farmers. You will work closely with researchers and product teams, to translate agronomic knowledge and program insights into practical digital tools, including advisory systems, digital extension services, and decision-support content.

About PxD:

Precision Development (PxD) is a global non-profit with the mission to scale innovations that millions of smallholder farmers in low and middle-income countries can use to improve their lives. PxD’s primary approach is delivering timely, evidence-based digital information to farmers via basic mobile phones.

So far, PxD has scaled digital agriculture services to more than 46 million farmers across Africa and Asia. PxD scales these digital information services through three models: i) direct service delivery to farmers; ii) improvement of partners’ existing services; and iii) strategic government advisory.

Through this third service model, PxD has established Project Management Units (PMUs) embedded within the Ministries of Agriculture in India and Ethiopia to support the governments in coordinating, managing, and scaling their nationwide portfolios of digital agriculture services.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

The role will grow as you develop, but you will start by focusing on the following key responsibilities:

  • Support the design, development, enhancement, and deployment of digital agriculture advisory services across multiple channels and user groups, including mobile applications, SMS, IVR, and other digital platforms, ensuring that services are user-centered and evidence-informed
  • Conduct user needs assessments, product evaluations, field visits, and stakeholder consultations with farmers, extension agents, developers, and other partners to gather feedback, validate requirements, and test digital solutions in real-world environments
  • Support the development and maintenance of technical documentation, user workflows, standard operating procedures, and implementation guidelines to ensure effective deployment, adoption, and knowledge transfer
  • Evaluate agricultural digital platforms for API maturity and integration readiness, and develop recommendations to strengthen interoperability, system connectivity, and data-sharing capabilities across the digital agriculture ecosystem.
  • Assess and recommend digital tools and technologies that are future-ready, identifying opportunities to enhance productivity, personalization, decision-making, and service delivery through emerging technologies, including AI and advanced analytics.
  • Contribute to the translation of agronomic knowledge, seasonal recommendations, and research insights into structured digital content and user-friendly decision-support tools.
  • Collaborate with research and data teams to use agricultural, behavioral, economic, and usage data to improve service design, monitor performance, and ensure services effectively address user needs.
  • Track project progress, document key activities and learnings, and support reporting, knowledge management, and follow-up on action items and implementation risks
  • Support stakeholder engagement and coordination with government counterparts, implementing and technology partners, field teams, and other collaborators to ensure effective planning, communication, and implementation of assigned activities
  • Contribute to internal learning, knowledge sharing, and dissemination of project insights through briefs and presentations.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated experience supporting the design, implementation, evaluation, or improvement of digital advisory services delivered through SMS, IVR, mobile applications, web platforms, or other digital channels
  • Experience in digital agriculture, agritech, agricultural extension, applied development work, or the implementation of technology-enabled development projects
  • Deep understanding of agricultural systems and smallholder farming contexts in Ethiopia or similar settings
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret program, operational, and user data to generate insights and inform decision-making
  • Ability to translate agronomic and technical information into simple, user-friendly tools, content, or solutions for farmers and other end users
  • Proven experience working with field teams and engaging directly with farmers, extension agents, or rural communities to understand needs and support solution implementation
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills in English and Amharic.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks across teams.
  • Willingness to travel to field sites in Ethiopia, subject to security considerations.
