Project background

The BRIDGE project is funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (EKN) for the period 17 September 2018 until 30 June 2023. It supports the dairy sector in Ethiopia through eight components, i.e. extension, input markets, output markets and market linkages, nutrition, food safety, commercial farmer programme, action research and MEAL. The project uses a market-based approach, operating in the Regions of Amhara, Tigray, Oromiya and Sidama, with up-scaling activities in other Regions. creating impact at dairy farmer level and also contributing to sector transformation.

The project team consists of an international Project Manager, a deputy PM and national advisers (of both SNV and WUR), based in the Addis Ababa office. In each of the four regions where the project works there are regional technical teams, headed by a (sub-) Regional Manager, supported by Dairy Project Officers, based in the woredas.

Purpose of the job

This position is for a Transition Manager for the BRIDGE project with the function of deputy Project Manager. The Transition Manager will focus on the transition between the current phase of the BRIDGE project, that is due to end by 30 June 2023, and the anticipated next phase of the project, BRIDGE+, due to start on 1 July, 2023.

The main responsibilities of this position are:

  • Handling all issues dealing with the closure of the project (guided by the SNV Project Closure Procedures), with a focus on the contractual issues with partners and stakeholders (particularly due to the early closure of the project);
  • Carrying out all necessary preparations for the starting of BRIDGE+, including contractual issues with Regional Governments, contract preparations with partners, and developing implementation modalities.
  • Jointly with the project manager and deputy project manager manage on-going BRIDGE project activities, and where necessary participate in and/or lead such activities.
  • Represent the project in national fora and meetings, in close consultation with the PM.
  • Participate in SNV Ethiopia EECMT and sector meetings, representing the project jointly with or delegated by the PM.

Qualifications

 Master’s degree in dairy or livestock-related subject and six or more years relevant experience in a senior project management position, in supervising project teams, working at the national level in the dairy sector, development work, project management, and sector(s) in an international, multiple country context.
