About the Opportunity

The Database Specialist will be a new position for AEC as we seek to generate meaningful insights from AEC’s large sets of data to inform company decisions.  The main role will be to create and maintain the performance, integrity, security of databases, and to leverage their contents for strategic advantage to the company. Our databases include internal operational data, funder data, client data, and more.

Specifically, the responsibilities will include:

Responsibilities

Data Quality Management

  • Ensure that data collected from the field has the required level of quality attributes before being entered into the database system for analysis and reporting
  • Coordinate database with other data collection software, including Kobo ToolBox
  • Partner with department managers to ensure staff users of the databases are well equipped to proactively contribute to database usage and reliability of content
  • Data clean up

Reporting and Dashboards

  • Create rich, interactive reports and real-time visualizations with PowerBI dashboards or any other data analytic tool as may be required in collaboration with the Data Analyst and Managers.
  • Work with MEL team and other database end-users to create, maintain and maximize the ability of the database to analyze data
  • Create and update dashboards for key areas of management decision making
  • Run reports for various purposes, combining a variety of data and fields to generate new insights as needed.

Database Structure and Administration

  • Model tables, databases, and solutions to customer needs by contributing to the logical design of data systems
  • Provide support to IT development teams, including database design, database generation, coding, and database support (installation and testing of new versions of the database management system)
  • Monitor and tune the databases for optimal performance; Implement system configuration changes to optimize database and systems performance; Diagnose and troubleshoot database errors
  • Maintain data standards and ensure the security of the database by enforcing data protection policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Write database documentation, including data standards, procedures, and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata).
  • Create automation for repeating database tasks.
  • Perform routine and customary operational and monitoring activities to ensure database integrity, stability, availability, and capability of meeting ongoing information needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, data science and analytics, statistics, or any other relevant field
  • Five+ years of relevant experience in database management
  • Experience with Odoo preferred and PowerBi required
  • Strong command of SQL and SQL server tools
  • In-depth knowledge of data retrieval and storage system
  • Excellent knowledge of relational databases and Object Relational Mapping
  • Advanced knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards
  • Proven experience using data science languages, preferably Python, to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets
  • Working knowledge of data visualization and dashboard creation platforms like Excel, Stata, Power Bi, etc.
