Job Description
The Youth Network for Sustainable Development (YNSD) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization founded in 2003 with the vision of empowering Ethiopian youth to become productive, self-reliant, and healthy agents of sustainable development. Our organization focuses on various program areas such as Youth and Women Empowerment, Health and HIV/AIDS, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Environment with a special emphasis on climate change and Emerging Issues.
Youth Network for Sustainable Development (YNSD) in partnership with Mastercard Foundation implements Community Service Program in Addis Ababa, Sodo and Dessie clusters. This Program envisions “equal opportunity for young people to learn and prosper, access to dignified and fulfilling work and contribute to their country’s overall development.”
The Community Service as Pathway to Work (CSPW) initiative aims to contribute to this vision by engaging young people (18 to 34 years) in a structured program of community service, training and by providing linkages to a comprehensive local network of public, private, and civic sector agencies that provide work-related placements and resources. The Program will make every opportunity available to engage differently-abled youth as well as internally displaced persons (IDPs) which are directly impacted by the conflict and other vulnerable groups in the community.

Job Summary
The Data Entry Operator will ensure accurate and efficient entry, validation, and management of program data for the CSPW program. This role is critical to maintaining data integrity, supporting M&E activities, and enabling evidence-based decision-making for a program targeting 500,000 youth (70% women, 10% vulnerable groups) across Ethiopia. The ideal candidate will possess meticulous attention to detail, proficiency in data management tools, and a commitment to data security and confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Entry & Validation:
- Accurately input data from paper forms, electronic documents, surveys, and field reports into designated databases or systems such as KOBO, CommCare
- Verify data completeness, consistency, and accuracy; rectify discrepancies in collaboration with cluster teams.
- Clean and format data to align with program standards such as youth demographics, vulnerability status, service hours
- Data Quality Assurance:
- Conduct routine checks to identify and resolve errors such as duplicates, missing UIDs, incomplete records,
- Implement data cleaning protocols to address recurring issues
- Maintain logs of data entry activities, sources, and quality issues for audit trails.
- Database Management:
- Organize and secure program data files and databases, ensuring confidentiality of sensitive information
- Migrate legacy data to new platforms like CommCare-based systems and resolve integration gaps.
- Back up data regularly and adhere to data protection policies.
- Collaboration & Reporting:
- Coordinate with cluster teams to ensure data consistency and integration across different projects and programs.
- Support M&E officers in generating reports, dashboards, and visualizations (e.g., Power BI).
- Assist in data analysis for program indicators such as youth reach, transition-to-work rates
- Compliance & Improvement:
- Follow CSPW data protocols, MEL frameworks, and safeguarding guidelines.
- Propose solutions to enhance data workflows such as automating validation checks
- Other duties: Perform other duties, as assigned by the supervisor to support program objectives
About You
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
- Degree in IT, Statistics, Data Management, Social Sciences, or related fields.
Experience:
- 2+ years in data entry, database management, or M&E roles, preferably in NGO/program settings.
- Experience with digital tools: KOBO, CommCare, ODK, Excel, or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with migration/integration of legacy data systems (e.g., CommCare customization).
Exposure:
- Work in youth-focused, community development, or livelihood programs is a plus.
Required Skills
- Technical:
- 90+ WPM typing speed with 95%+ accuracy (Testing during recruitment)
- Advanced Excel (formulas, pivot tables) and database software proficiency.
- Basic knowledge of data visualization (Power BI) and statistical analysis.
- Analytical:
- Keen eye for detail to spot inconsistencies
- Problem-solving skills to address data gaps
- Soft Skills:
- Fluency in English and Amharic (written/spoken); regional languages ( Oromiffa) advantageous.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines amid program scaling (e.g., 22 new Woredas).
- Team collaboration across clusters (Addis, Dessie, Sodo) and cultural sensitivity.
