Job Description
Job Summary
provides technical expertise to farmers and project partners on best practices for crop cultivation, including advice on seed selection, soil management, and post-harvest handling. Contribute to project planning, implementation, and training, ensuring activities align with program goals and standards, and often incorporate climate-smart agriculture (CSA) principles and assist in the development of sustainable agribusiness models.
Specific Responsibilities
- Plan, implement, and monitor crop business development interventions along selected value chains.
- Provide technical advisory services on improved crop production practices (soil fertility, seed systems, crop protection, irrigation, climate-smart agriculture).
- Facilitate training for farmers, cooperatives, and enterprises in crop business management.
- Support rural young women and youth in developing crop-based enterprises.
- Identify market opportunities and connect producers with traders, processors, and exporters.
- Strengthen partnerships with private sector actors, agro-dealers, and financial institutions.
- Facilitate access to finance, inputs, and technologies for crop producers.
- Collect and analyze data on crop production, productivity, and market performance.
- Collaborate with local government (Agriculture, Cooperative Promotion, TVETs, etc.), research centers, and private sector actors.
- Perform other relevant tasks assigned by the immediate supervisor or the management of the organization

About You
Educational Qualification and Experience
- BA/MA in Plant Science, Agriculture, Plant Science, Agricultural Economics, or related fields, and a minimum of 3 years of experience. Proven expertise in crop production systems, agribusiness development, and market linkages.
Additional Skill
- Strong technical knowledge of crop production, agronomy, and post-harvest management.
- Business development and market systems expertise.
- Sensitivity to gender, youth, and inclusion in crop business development
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and reporting skills.
- Fluency in English and local language/s.
