An exciting vacant position has arisen at East Africa Bottling Share Company – Ethiopia for the role of Country Lead :TAX . The position is structured to report to the Finance Director.
Key purpose statement.
To lead and manage all tax matters in Ethiopia, ensuring full compliance with local tax regulations while providing strategic tax leadership to support business growth, minimize risks, and maintain strong relationships with tax authorities.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Tax Compliance & Reporting: Ensure timely and accurate filing of all statutory tax obligations, including Corporate Income TaxVATExcise TaxWithholding TaxPayroll taxes (PAYE, pension contributions)Review monthly, quarterly, and annual tax computations and reconciliations. Ensure compliance with Ethiopian Revenue and Customs Authority (ERCA) regulations and directives. Oversee tax accounting and tax provisions in line with IFRS and group reporting requirements.
- Tax Audit & Risk Management: Lead and manage tax audits, assessments, and investigations with ERCA. Prepare, review, and submit audit responses, objections, and appeals. Identify tax risks proactively and develop mitigation strategies. Maintain strong working relationships with tax authorities and external advisors.
- Tax Planning & Advisory: Provide proactive tax planning and advisory support to the business. Analyze the tax impact of new products, pricing, promotions, supply chain changes, and capital investments. Advise management on changes in Ethiopian tax legislation and their business implications. Support transfer pricing documentation and related-party transactions in line with local and group requirements.
- Stakeholder & Business Support: Act as a trusted tax business partner to Finance, Legal, Supply Chain, HR, and Commercial teams. Provide tax input into contracts, tenders, and strategic initiatives. Support due diligence activities and special projects as required.
- Governance & Group Alignment: Ensure alignment with CCBA and The Coca-Cola Company global tax policies and controls. Prepare tax reports for regional and group stakeholders. Support internal and external audits related to tax matters. Maintain strong internal controls over tax processes.
- Leadership & Team Development: Lead, coach, and develop the tax team. Build tax knowledge and awareness across the wider finance and business teams. Promote a culture of compliance, integrity, and continuous improvement.
Skills, Experience & Education
Education & Certification :
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s degree is an advantage)
- CA(SA), ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent accounting qualification.
- HDip in Taxation or recognized tax certification advantageous.
Experience:
- 8+ years’ experience in tax or financial accounting.
- 2+ years of leadership experience managing teams and financial/tax processes.
- Experience in FMCG or multinational environment preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of local tax laws and IFRS.
Skills:
- Tax Compliance & Reporting – Strong understanding of corporate tax, VAT, and withholding tax processes.
- Financial Accounting Integration – Ability to align tax entries and reconciliations with IFRS reporting.
- Analytical Reasoning – Skilled at interpreting tax data and identifying compliance risks.
- Governance & Control – Maintains discipline in documentation and adherence to tax policies.
- Communication & Advisory – Explains complex tax matters clearly to non-tax stakeholders.
- Stakeholder Management – Builds effective relationships with tax authorities and auditors.
