Job Description

Introduction

CIFA is an international NGO with over 30 years of commitment in protecting the rights of the most vulnerable categories. Having operated in Ethiopia for over 15 years, CIFA currently works in the migration and environmental protection sectors, supporting the access to primary and secondary education, especially for girls, fighting against the worst forms of discrimination and supporting women’s economic empowerment.

 About the project

The project “CHALLENGES: Support, Training and Entrepreneurship in Dessie, Ethiopia” is an integrated intervention co-funded by the Italian Ministry of Interior, aimed at mitigating the main threats and consequences of irregular migration, and to improve the living conditions of the categories at greater risks exposure. The project aims at supporting the reintegration of returnees and preventing the irregular depart of unskilled young migrants, while strengthening the capacities of local services targeting unemployed and vulnerable people in Dessie City Administration and Dessie Zuria Wereda, South Wollo Zone, Amhara Region.

 The role 

The 2 community mobilizers will be in charge of supporting the beneficiaries of the project (especially potential migrants, returnees, teachers, youth and children) with the main focus on awareness creation and sensitization activities related to the illegal migration risks vs legal pathways and the social impacts of unprotected experiences. The intervention will apply Social Community Theatre methodologies. The community mobilizers will collaborate closely with 2 Italian experts of Social and Community Theatre (SCT) and they will be trained on the activities implementation.  They will be supported and supervised by the SCT operators, the Project Manager and the Project Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

  •  Attend at least  a 4-days-training in Addis Ababa (costs covered by the project) from the beginning of August 2022
  • Develop an activity plan, in coordination with the Social Community Theatre (SCT) experts and the Project staff, and implement it according to the timeframe and assigned budget;
  • Actively participate and facilitate all community awareness activities of the project
  • Collaborate with the PSS staff and other project teams
  • Develop specific approaches and activities for different target groups (returnees, potential migrants, women, men, teachers, youth, children and communities) foreseeing an active participation of the beneficiaries;
  • Ensure attentive monitoring and evaluation of the implemented activities, through interviews and questionnaires, relying on specific indicators;
  • Supporting the organization of other awareness-raising activities (workshops, radio programs, etc.);
  • Translating activities material and tools from Amharic to English and vice versa
  • Timely narrative and financial reporting and data collection on activities

Required profile: Community Mobilizer

Starting date: August 2022

Number of Positions:  2 (two)

Job contract duration: 17 months.

Salary: The gross salary is not negotiable and will be 19,297 ETB, according to the organization salary scale.

Job Requirements

  • Social Sciences Degree;
  • at least 3 years’ experience in relevant field, preferably previous experience in Social and Community Theatre methodologies;
  • at least 3 years’ experience with children and youth
  • any knowledge related to theatre, dance or music
  • willing to work with an international team;
  • willingness to work in Dessie area
  • previous experience in development projects with vulnerable people (especially youth and children, women);
  • skills on events organization and sensitization campaigns;
  • abilities in public speeches and interaction with the audience;
  • abilities in relationships with beneficiaries and other stakeholders;
  • knowledge on gender and migration themes;
  • artistic/drama competencies and abilities;
  • Excellent knowledge of written and oral English is mandatory (knowledge of the language will be subject to a verification test).

The selection of the 2 CMs will be done in two steps:

  • selection of 10 candidates for a preliminary training in Addis Ababa (costs covered by the project) of 4 days
  • selection of the 2 finalist CMs to be hired, at the end of the four-days-training in Addis Ababa
