Job Description

Imagine1day is an international NGO working in development and humanitarian sector. The organization has begun its operation in 2007.It is registered as Canadian Charity in Ethiopia with its main objective is all Ethiopian children will have access to quality education free of foreign aid. Currently, it is working in Oromia, SNNPR, Amhara, Benishangul and Tigray. It has been massively investing on education development to improve access and quality of preprimary and primary education by contributing to the national and regional efforts through innovative models of connecting stakeholders and development partners in Oromia region since 2012 G.C.

Currently, Imagine1day is seeking qualified and competent professionals for the Community Mobilization Officer post:

JOB SUMMARY:

The Community Mobilizing Officer has responsibility for creating strong partnership among imagine1day, schools, and community at large. Working closely with the Community Development Officer, Program Officer and the regional office staff, the Community Mobilizing Officer provides support to the office in mobilizing the community and local resources, capacitating school societies, ensuring smooth implementation of projects at community/school level, collect and compile data on school activities, participate in bi-annual project monitoring and evaluation, and reporting on project progress and outcomes.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Liaise between community, woreda partner offices and imagine1day regional office.
  • Play a leading role in community and resource mobilization
  • Create strategies and track the enrollment of all out of school children
  • Work closely with school Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs), Water Management Committees (WMCs), principals, teachers and targeted partner communities in the woreda.
  • Assist principals in creating strong community school partnership
  • Provide technical assistance to schools in planning, improving documentation, and training replication
  • Ensure proper handing over procedures in place in a case of principal and teachers transfer
  • Strengthening school clubs and committees
  • Promote school hygiene and sanitation programs
  • Ensure successful implementation of school IGAs and report the progress in monthly report to the community development officer.
  • Ensure smooth implementation of project activities and sustained project outcomes
  • Compile and produce monthly school updates on student enrollment, attendance, inter and intra school competitions, school club accomplishments, school income generation activities, trees survival rate, community contribution, functionality of school facilities, and challenges faced and solution sought.
  • Enable school environments are conducive for child learning
  • Identify and support OVCs.
  • Ensure that all school teachers and students have their personal goals in their classroom or staff room.
  • Assist Communication Experts in translation and providing all necessary information about the school/community.
  • Assist Community Development Officer in providing pertinent information about the project activities, progress, and impacts that will be used for regular government and M& E reports.
  • Have a bi-weekly meeting with Community Development Officer to share success stories, project progress, breakdowns/challenges encountered, and forthcoming plan.
  • Work any related tasks requested by the Community Development Officer and Program Officer.

Reporting to:   Community Development Officer

Duration: ten months with possibility of extension

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Position requires BA/BSC degree in educational planning & management, School leadership, Instructional leadership, Pedagogical science or other related education fields. At least five years of relevant experience in primary school principal, cluster supervisor or district education expert. A good understanding of issues related to primary education access, quality, equality and efficiency. Must possess excellent communication and time management skills with ability to work autonomously and take on responsibility without close supervision.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Ability and willingness to work in remote rural communities and have motor cycle license. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal & written).  Excellent spoken and written English, Amharic and Afan Oromo languages. Computer and internet competency (MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, & MS Outlook). Skill of photography, video and audio-visual editing is also highly advantageous. Able to interact with people of diverse cultural backgrounds. Ability to work effectively in a team-driven environment.
