ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTION
The Ethiopian Medical Association (EMA) is one of the first professional associations in Ethiopia and was established on July 2, 1962 G.C with 100 founding members through a formal charter granted to it by the then Emperor Haile Selassie I. EMA is member of World Medical Association since 1994 G.C.
EMA’s head office is based in Addis Ababa and has a presence in five regions represented by its nine regional branch offices (Gonder, Mekelle, Bahir Dar, Dessie, Jimma, Adama, Harare, Hawassa and Arba Minch). EMA has been operational for over 59 years on promoting quality of medical service in Ethiopia and evidence-based medicine through publishing the Ethiopian Medical Journal (EMJ). The mission of the association is to: Ensure that the community gets quality health service and care; promote the highest standards in medical education, science, art and practice and ensure the rights and benefits of medical professionals (doctors) and act as their voice

Job Purpose
The Communications and Social Media Management Officer is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring EMA’s communication, social media, branding, media relations, and event documentation activities to enhance the Association’s visibility, stakeholder engagement, and advocacy efforts.
Key Performance Areas (KPA)
1. Communication and Content Development
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement communication and social media plans aligned with EMA’s strategic objectives.
- Create and publish content for social media, website, newsletters, press releases, and other communication platforms.
- Develop communication materials for advocacy campaigns and organizational initiatives.
2. Social Media Management and Engagement
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and update EMA’s social media platforms.
- Schedule, publish, and monitor social media content.
- Respond to inquiries and engage with followers in a timely manner.
- Monitor social media performance and prepare periodic reports.
3. Graphic Design and Multimedia Production
Key Responsibilities
- Design banners, flyers, infographics, certificates, brochures, and social media graphics.
- Produce and edit photographs, videos, reels, and promotional materials.
- Ensure compliance with EMA branding standards.
4. Event Communication and Documentation
Key Responsibilities
- Lead communication, photography, videography, and social media coverage of EMA events.
- Prepare event highlights, success stories, and communication reports.
- Maintain a repository of event photos, videos, and communication materials.
5. Media Monitoring and Public Relations
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor media coverage and emerging issues relevant to physicians, healthcare, and health policy.
- Share relevant updates and news through EMA communication platforms.
- Support media relations, interviews, and press engagements.
6. Website Management and Reporting
Key Responsibilities
- Regularly update EMA’s website with news, events, and publications.
- Maintain communication records and digital archives.
- Prepare monthly communication performance reports.

About You
Education: MA/BA in Communication, Journalism, PR and other related fields.
Experience: 3/5yrs of related experience with extensive knowledge and experience in communication and PR works. In addition, experience in NGO environment is advantageous.
Fluency in spoken and written Amharic language is required
