The Opportunity

Plan International Ethiopia would like to recruit Communication Officer for the Gambella Regions. The post holder is responsible for the implementation of the Gambella Program Area communication strategy with an aim of enhancing the overall achievement of the humanitarian and development programme through internal and external communications and public relations activities that build visibility, image and brand; increase knowledge and awareness of Plan in Ethiopia.

The Individual

Qualifications and Experience Requirements

  • B.A. Degree in Communication, Journalism (print/web), English Language and Literature, Public Relations & Information Management or related field from a recognized educational institution.
  • 3 years relevant work experience, preferably in international humanitarian and development organizations or media houses.
  • Experience in emergency response work is an add value.

 Desirable Knowledge:

  • Ability to analyses complex information from different sources and to synthesize this information into coherent and appropriate knowledge and communication products
  • Ability to develop creative communication ideas, to identify and develop engaging stories, and to generate inspiring and accessible messages.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritizing to meet tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of development issues, trends, challenges and opportunities, and implications to community development.

Skills Specific to the Post:

  • Computer Proficiency in MS Word, EXCEL, publisher, Adobe In Design, Adobe Photoshop and Access.
  • Excellent written and verbal English skills and report writing skills.
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills. including presentation.
  • Excellent level of integrity, flexibility, innovation and team work.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build relationships with colleagues.
  • Excellent capacity and experience in news writing, layout, designing and media relations.
  • Child centre development and Gender are aware.
  • Fluency in English and Amharic languages Knowledge and skill of local languages is a plus.
  • High levels of attention to detail and quality

Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI)

  • Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
  • Ensures that all staff signed safeguarding policies;
  • Implement Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded in day to day work.
