Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Deputy Director of Commercial Centers, the Commercial Services Lead would be responsible to supervise administratively BemONC centers and extend operational support to MCH centers to ensure centers are providing high-quality services and achieving desired service delivery targets and financial goals. Under the business leadership of the Deputy Director of Commercial Centers, the incumbent is responsible for closely working with support functions and MCH center managers to strive for overall business growth and financial sustainability of each center and the entire MCH center network.

Specific Roles and Responsibilities

Business Leadership and BemONC Network Management

  • Responsible for overall business and managerial oversight to ensure financial sustainability of each BemONC center and entire network and continuous growth of the center business.
  • Take accountability for the business development and administrative aspects of the BemONC (Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care) centers
  • Responsible for preparing center-specific turnaround business development plan and execution as per agreed timeline and deliverables.
  • Take business leadership to ensure high team spirit and productivity management through job coaching, field visits, and periodic reviewing of performance targets of the centers.
  • Responsible for effective implementation of performance improvement initiatives like client referral scheme, service diversification, waiver scheme, client-centric care, working hours extension, center branding guideline, and any other future business development strategies planned over time.
  • Develop demand creation strategies and ensure implementation of center-specific demand creation/marketing plan to increase client footfall and revenue generation for centers.
  • Assess the private sector activity, price structure, external environment, opportunities, and threats to take proactive measures to continue service delivery and business growth.
  • Develop standard operating procedure (SOP) to standardize various business processes to maintain high-quality service delivery standards and efficiency in operation.
  • Ensures appropriate utilization of budgets and resources at the center level.

Operational Leadership support for CemONC/MCH Network

  • Responsible for preparing center-specific turnaround business development plan and execution as per agreed timeline and deliverables.
  • Take leadership to ensure high team spirit and productivity management through on-the-job coaching, field visits, and periodic reviewing of performance targets of the centers.
  • Responsible for effective implementation of performance improvement initiatives like client referral scheme, service diversification, waiver scheme, client-centric care, working hours extension, center branding guideline, and any other future business development strategies planned over time.
  • Develop demand creation strategies and ensure implementation of center-specific demand creation/marketing plans to increase client footfall and revenue generation for centers.

  • Responsible for day-to-day operational support for MCH centers, Directly manage and provide day-to-day technical and operational support to the MCH centers,

Marketing Leadership

  • Work closely with the Senior Marketing Manager and Client Experience Lead of MSI Ethiopia to develop and implement marketing strategies for the Commercial Service and Maternity department.
  • Plan, organize, and lead marketing activities and events to raise brand awareness and promote MSI Centers, with a specific focus on the Commercial Service and Maternity department.
  • Collaborate with the Commercial Manager and Marketing Lead to ensure alignment with overall marketing strategies and objectives.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including healthcare providers, community leaders, and partner organizations, to enhance the visibility and reputation of the Commercial Service and Maternity Department.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and adjust strategies as needed to optimize results.
  • Provide guidance and support to BemONC and CemONC/MCH center managers, ensuring their adherence to operational and administrative protocols.
  • Stay updated on the Organization’s trends, best practices, and innovations in marketing, particularly in the healthcare and maternity sectors, and apply this knowledge to enhance marketing efforts.
  • Collaborate with the Commercial Manager and Marketing Lead to develop and implement marketing plans and initiatives that align with the overall goals and objectives of MSI Ethiopia.

Resource Management and Administration

  • Responsible for planning center-wise staffing structure based on workload and managing all human resource-related issues according to MSIE HR policy
  • Take the lead in overall coordination with support functions and decision-making to ensure required human resources, supply chain/inventory management, and center-level maintenance support are provided to run the center operation smoothly efficiently, and sustainably.
  • Support preparing annual procurement planning for the entire commercial department activities and follow up with support functions for timely delivery.
  • Responsible for monthly expense planning, approvals of expenses, and ensuring all financial transactions of the center are in line with the MSIE financial policies.
  • Approves supplies’ requests and issuance and authorizes financial payments for the purchase of goods and services as per the organization’s financial policy and delegation of authority.
  • Ensure center staff are trained and adhering to MSIE policies like safeguarding, AFB, code of conduct, and duty of care statement signed by concerned providers.

 Client Centric Care and quality assurance

  • Responsible for achieving set quality standards, internal quality audit, timely incident reporting, and achieving annual targets for model areas and model sites per MSI global standard.
  • Work closely with the quality department to ensure implementation of the incident action plan, periodic competency assessment of staff, regular training and capacity building of staff, and adherence to MSI protocols at centers in place.
  • Organize training, and experience-sharing visits to build the capacity of center managers and center staff skills in effective communication, customer handling, and client-centric care.
  • Enforces MSIE Infection Prevention Standards for the clinic.
  • Ensure Maintenance of a safe, clean, orderly, and pleasant Clinic environment
  • Ensures the maintenance of efficient delivery of client-centric care and the confidentiality of all cases, by accepted standard medical practices and professional code of conduct.

Reporting, decision-making, and partnership management

  • Ensure center-wise weekly/monthly/quarterly reports of KPI, financial, and stock reports are shared with the line manager per the agreed schedule.
  • Conduct periodic performance review meetings, center-wise productivity analyses, and best practice experience sharing among centers.
  • Ensures center-level client records are up-to-date, orderly, properly filed, and readily retrievable for reference and inspection as per MSIE standards.
  • Identifies problems that interfere with practice and develops action plans for resolution.
  • Extend support to the center team in building strong relations with local government and non-governmental agencies to promote MSIE’s interest and partnership at the local level.
  • Promote the practice of cross-learning, and evidence-based decision-making by documenting and sharing success stories, challenges, and lessons learned from different initiatives.
  • Ensure effective collaboration and synergies are established with MSIE’s other business activities in the town/region.
  • Undertakes any other relevant duties assigned by the line manager/department director.

Team Management and Development

  • Ensure teamwork and knowledge sharing are facilitated.
  • Ensures that all relevant staff is trained on appropriate development programs.
  • Coach and mentor team members who are directly reporting.
  • Develop performance targets with each team member, conduct performance evaluations, and provide constructive feedback to the team members.

Job Requirements

Qualification Requirements:

  • MPH/BSc/MBA/BA in public health, healthcare/hospital management, Business Management or Marketing or related field

Desirable experience of four/six years on,  

  • Healthcare service delivery management, hospital/clinic network management
  • Experience within the sexual and reproductive healthcare sector or related field
  • Track record in achieving financial and non-financial targets in business management.

Skills, Attitudes and Attributes

  • Proven experience in marketing, preferably in the healthcare or maternity sector.
  • Strong leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to effectively manage and provide support to BemONC and CemONC centers.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and marketing software.
  • Familiarity with the local healthcare landscape and maternity services in Ethiopia.
