Purpose of the Position:

S/he is responsible for providing skilled nursing care and services to clients or patients in the rehabilitation center, and case managing nursing and non-skilled care and services, when assigned. All nursing services will be performed according to compliance with state and local laws/ regulations, the Nurse Practice Act, and the COC accreditation standards.

Scope:

Clinical Nurse, will visit multiple patients each day and provide them with a full range of personalized care, which may include such items as instruction on chronic disease management and medication, pain management, wound care, IV infusion, and postoperative instruction. Part of the job is to work with patients and provide the tools they need to ensure their own recovery. Seeing the end results of their recovery is just one of the many rewards of the position

Responsibilities:

  • Major responsibilities and target accomplishments expected of the position including the typical problems encountered in carrying out the responsibilities. The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to mean as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. The specific duties as a Nurse will include:
  • Providing case management as described in state regulations for all cases involving nursing and therapy services;
  • Making the initial evaluation visit as applicable and re-evaluating each patient’s nursing needs on a regular basis;
  • Providing nursing services, treatments and diagnostic procedures requiring specialized skills and assuming full responsibility for each of the patients;
  • Participating in in-service programs, as well as training, and teaching other nursing personnel;
  • Developing and implementing the treatment plan for each patient under the direction of their physician;
  • Observing and reporting symptoms, reaction to treatments, drugs, and changes in the patient’s physical or emotional condition;
  • Initiating preventative and rehabilitative nursing procedures as appropriate for the patient’s care and safety. Effecting changes in environment to ensure patient safety and security;
  • Maintaining clinical and progress notes for each patient receiving care and providing progress reports to their physician;
  • Coordinating services for patients as needed to other agencies and health care providers as appropriate;
  • Counseling the patient and their family in meeting nursing and related health needs;
  • Providing supervision of home health first aid services and preparing written instructions for care provided by home health first aids;
  • Maintaining confidentiality of patient and agency matters;
  • Submitting required documentation in a timely manner;
  • Reporting observed or suspected child or adult abuse pursuant to mandated requirements;
  • Assisting the Head Nurse, Center Coordinator, Reintegration & Center Officer and TVR Program Manager in decision making and policy formation for the Center Care Program;
  • Participating in surveys, studies, health related updates and special projects as assigned;
  • Maintaining accurate time records;
  • In addition to scheduled hours, participating in weekend/holiday call schedule;
  • Observing organization’s attendance requirements and dress code;
  • Conserving and adequately maintaining organization resources, properties, supplies, and equipments;
  • Adhering to all organization polices, including but not limited to, infection control and safety, health education, reporting and practice implementation;
  • This position has potential for cross training to other programs within the organization; this position of cross training will be utilized as needed or deemed necessary;

Reports to: Head Nurse/Health Team Leader

Based at: Addis Ababa Male Rehabilitation Center

Contract Type: 6 months with possible extension 

 

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • A Clinical Nurse must be dependable, professional, and energetic with a positive and empathetic personality. S/he needs to have strong organizational management, assessment, and problem solving abilities. It is also important that s/he display excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to interact well with patients, families, and staff.

The knowledge, skills, abilities and attitudes required for satisfactory job performance.

Knowledge

  • Specific qualifications for the Clinical Nurse position include:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing;
  • Valid and current Registered Nurse license in the state of practice;
  • COC certified;
  • 1-3 years of nursing experience; center care experience, preferred;
  • Experience in Medical/Surgical, Psychiatric, or ICU experience, a plus;
  • NGO work experience is advantageous.

Skills

  • Solid supervisory skills;
  • Excellent communication skills, flexible and able to interact positively with other staff;
  • Possess excellent computer skills;

Abilities

  • Strong sense of initiative and urgency in addressing unexpected patient crises;
  • Self-directed, able to work without presence of immediate supervisor;
  • Commitment to regulatory compliance and submitting all documentation in a timely fashion;
  • Demonstrated knowledge regarding exposure to body fluids and chemicals, as well as to some hazardous equipment;
  • Ability to see and hear adequately to respond to auditory and visual requests;
  • Evidence of adequate health status to perform duties;
  • Ability to pass a background screen;
  • Ability to travel as required;
  • Physical abilities to adequately perform described duties;
