Job Description

Civil Peace Service (here referred to as CPS) is a global programme for violence prevention and peace building in crisis and conflict regions. The CPS expert supports local partner organizations for the long term in their engagement efforts for dialogue, human rights and peace. Currently, CPS is establishing a new project entitled “Prevention of displacement and the sustainable reintegration of formerly displaced persons” as a new programme component. The project will be located in Ethiopia in the regional state of Sidama as well as in bordering areas between the regional states of Southern Nations, Nationalities and People’s Region (SNNPR).

The objective of the project is to support and enable representatives of local governmental structures, civil society, traditional and religious leaders, and media workers to apply their mandates and undertake action to promote non-violent transformation of conflict between different population groups, reducing flight and displacement.

Your tasks

  • Support the conceptual development and design of a new CPS programme component and its implementation in the region of Sidama and in SNNPR
  • Conceive and implement training in impact-oriented PM&E and knowledge management
  • Continuous monitoring of impact-oriented programme in cooperation with other international experts and partner organizations.. Support in analysis of context, conflict and relevant actors
  • Contribution and coordination of the public relations under the supervision of programme coordinator
  • Provide advice and follow ups with partners while developing and implementing a knowledge management structure for the entire programme
  • Advise technical experts and partner organizations in the application and implementation of PM&E systems
  • Develop and refine an integrated and impact-oriented project plan, including monitoring and evaluation at the programme and partner levels

Your profile

  • Master’s Degree in one of following disciplines: social sciences, political science, peace and conflict studies, or similar field
  • Proven experience and competencies in project monitoring and evaluation and knowledge management
  • Experience and knowledge in the field of civil and conflict prevention/transformation
  • Excellent training and moderation skills, experience applying participative methods, and adult capacity building
  • Capacity to integrate with a multicultural team, leading processes with flexibility, resilience and demonstrated ability to deal with setbacks successfully
  • Strong intercultural and social competence, openness to new situations and readiness to work with local actors and partners
  • Readiness to travel often within the country
  • Fluent in English (oral and written); German language is an asset
