LOCATION:  Dhagahbour -With frequent travel

GRADE:  4A

Level 3:  The responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people.

ROLE PURPOSE: 

Under the guidance and technical support of the Child protection Coordinator and Program Manager child Protection specialist, the Child Protection officer is responsible for working closely with community and government stakeholders. S/he is responsible for the effective, efficient and quality implementation of child protection projects at Woreda level by engaging community, government and other stakeholders. S/he works in establishing/strengthen community-based child protection mechanisms to prevent and protect children from abuse and other child protection risks. Also, best interest determination panel and other support activities to respond to the children problem. She/He/ will be responsible for delivering quality protection interventions, in line with protection minimum standards and SCI Ethiopia’s protection strategy including provision of legal information dissemination, protection monitoring activities, identification of GBV related issues and case management. In addition, the officer will take on any additional protection activity as required to meet the project objectives

Functional relationship– Child Protection Coordinator:

Dimensions: Communication and relationship management with a wide range of stakeholders, including the Woreda Education Office, Consortium members, and stakeholders.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Job specific roles and responsibilities 

  • Protection Program Implementation: Implement protection programs designed to address the specific needs and vulnerabilities of children and their families. This may include child protection, gender-based violence prevention and response, psychosocial support, and community-based protection initiatives.
  • Facilitate and lead community: awareness raising and sensitization programs to promote positive values of the society towards children.
  • Community Engagement: Work closely with communities to identify protection risks and develop strategies to address them effectively. Engage community members, local leaders, and other stakeholders in promoting child rights, protection mechanisms, and positive parenting practices.
  • Organise and conduct parenting without violence: sessions on nurturing health relationships within families without resorting to physical or emotional harm.
  • Supervise and monitoring: closely monitoring the effective implementation of child resilience session
  • Prepare monthly/weekly plan: implement and monitor child protection activities and ensure that program objectives and activities are in line with in the context of save the children, values, ai
  • Ensure necessary attention is given to children of concern through the provision of case management, referral services, material and other psychosocial supports.
  • Facilitate multi sectorial linkages at woreda level to prevent, protect and respond to child protection risks.
  • Promote and improve quality service delivery to fulfil Childrens’ right based on SCI vision, mission and values.
  • Establish/strengthen community based child protection mechanisms to prevent, respond, Report and protect children from abuse, exploitation and risks. .
  • Produce and submit quality and analytical periodic reports to CP coordinator.
  • Take measures and recommend directions to improve the quality of child protection works and to maximize the benefit children should get from it.
  • Identify, register and refer abused and exploited children for child protection services.
  • Share information on the progress and challenges of emergency child protection program activities with Save the children program staff and line manager and protection clusters as necessary.
  • Develop individual work plan for the implementation of protection activities in accordance with protection standards and the framework of the project;
  • Conduct rapid assessment to identify the legal service need and concern of the target population and frame response according to the identified need;
  • Conduct information dissemination on the legal rights and procedures with a focus on issues affecting the target population through the mobile protection desk and community outreach;
  • Facilitate and advocate access to legal documentation for the target community in collaboration with relevant government authorities and humanitarian agencies;
  • Organize capacity building training to government stakeholders and community-based structures on relevant international and national laws and procedures;
  • Ensure the adherence to ethical data collection and data protection and data sharing protocols throughout protection activities;
  • Work on protection monitoring; including on the achievements and challenges pertaining to our project implementation

In order to be successful, you will bring/have: 

MINIMUM QUALFICATION, EXPEREINCE, COMPETENCIES

QUALIFICATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in health or social science and humanities, Sociology, Psychology, Law or other related fields.
  •  At least 3-5 years of relevant experience in child protection, humanitarian assistance, or related fields, preferably with an international NGO.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and spoken English language and Somali language.
  • Experience in case management, psychosocial support, and working with vulnerable populations, including children, women.
  • Willingness to work in hardship area and to work extra hours (when needed).
  • Qualified female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Strong computer (Microsoft skills), all and interpersonal skills.
  • Previous working experience in child protection in general and community-based child protection mechanism and in particular child resilience, community mobilization and psychosocial support is preferable.

  • Knowledge of the local language (Somali language)
