Job Description

Founded in 1950, Doctors with Africa CUAMM was the first NGO focused on healthcare to be recognized by the Italian government. It is now one of the leading organization working to protect and improve the well-being and health of vulnerable communities in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The NGO promotes long-term health cooperation projects, intervening also in emergencies to ensure that services are available to all.

Doctors with Africa CUAMM is currently active in 8 Sub-Saharan countries: Angola, Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda.

The NGO supports public and non-profit hospitals, local districts, schools of nursing and midwifery, university faculties of medicine.

CUAMM’s action focuses on health system strengthening and targets the weakest population groups, particularly women and children. Interventions include prevention, screening and treatment programmes; development or strengthening of referral systems at community level; training of health staff; management support and technical assistance to local health institutions; field research.

CUAMM’s international and national staff work together on the front line to strengthen local health systems, in resource-limited contexts where the commitment and contribution of the individual can make a real difference.

Position

Job position: Business Development Manager

Location: Wolisso and Addis Abeba, Ethiopia

Duration: 12 months

Purpose of the role

Given the growing complexity of donor requirements and the need to ensure financial sustainability of projects, the NGO is recruiting a Business Development Manager.

He/she will support the Management Team (MT) of St Luke Catholic Hospital in achieving a good performance of the Hospital, thus ensuring an appropriate relationship with partners and stakeholders, a good implementation and completion of projects, as well as the development and drafting of new projects.

On behalf of and in coordination with the Hospital’s MT, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for securing the necessary resources for the hospital’s operations and development plan.

In addition, he/she will assist the MT in managing relationships with stakeholders, the government, and international agencies to uphold the hospital’s reputation while developing new project proposals.

Key duties:

  • Resource Mobilization and Donor Engagement
  • Identify and develop funding opportunities to ensure the sustainability and expansion of healthcare services at St. Luke Catholic Hospital and the College of Nursing & Midwifery
  • Strengthen relationships with existing donors, including Italian Cooperation (AICS) and other institutional and private partners, ensuring alignment with project priorities
  • Support the development of new proposals for additional funding to address critical healthcare needs in Wolisso and other project areas.
  • Strategic Planning and Institutional Development
  • Contribute to CUAMM’s long-term strategic planning by assessing potential partnerships and funding streams
  • Provide technical support for financial planning and project sustainability, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to maximize impact.
  • Capacity Building and Coordination
  • Support the local team in developing grant management skills, donor compliance, and reporting standards to enhance CUAMM’s operational efficiency in Ethiopia
  • Assist in preparing high-quality documentation, including reports, funding applications, and communication materials for key stakeholders
  • Liaison with National and International Partners
  • Act as a key point of contact between CUAMM’s Italian HQs, field offices, and external stakeholders such as the Ethiopian Ministry of Health, Oromia Regional Authorities, and donor agencies
  • Facilitate the exchange of best practices between CUAMM-supported initiatives in Ethiopia and international experts, enhancing the quality of healthcare interventions

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in Health, Public Health, Health Management.
  • Proven experience in business development or project management, preferably in the health or nonprofit sector; previous experience with NGOs is an asset
  • Fluency in English and Italian.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, government institutions, and international agencies
  • Knowledge of project planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Familiarity with international cooperation projects
  • Experience in securing funding and developing project proposals
  • Familiarity with the AICS (Italian Cooperation) donor and its regulations and procedures
  • Previous experience in Ethiopia is an asset

Other information

TERMS OF CONTRACT

Type of contract: collaboration contract

Salary: TBD according to NGO salary grids and compensation policy (basic salary for the job position, with possible increase based on professional experience)

Rest days: 2.5 days for each month of work

Flight ticket: one return flight

Health issues: the NGO provides health insurance and covers the costs of any compulsory vaccinations

Visa and permits: the NGO bears the cost and paperwork for visa, work and residence permits

Accommodation: provided by the NGO, it is generally individual, depending on the logistical situation and the availability of accommodation in the workplace

Other costs: the NGO covers costs related to housing utilities and internet; food and personal expenses are covered by the worker
