About the Opportunity

The  Analytics Manager is a new position for Inkomoko as we double the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning team in 2023.  This is a regional position, responsible for deliverables across our countries of operation in Rwanda, Kenya, Ethiopia, and South Sudan.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the data team for reliable and meaningful data analysis and insights across our programs and business operations.

The Analytics Manager will supervise three colleagues: a Data Scientist, Data Engineer, and Data Analyst. As the Business Intelligence team of the MEL department, they will analyze data, generate insights and develop predictive models to support the organization’s decision-making processes. They will also be responsible for creating reports and visualizations to communicate insights to stakeholders inside and outside of the company.

This position will report to the Regional MEL Director, and will often represent the organizations’ impact results in public forums, to donors, and other high-profile stakeholders.  They will also be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to improve the organization’s data quality, processes, systems and alignment with various departments in order to understand our outcomes and impact aligned with Inkomoko’s theory of change.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include:

Managerial responsibilities

  • Supervise the Business Intelligence team of data staff, ensuring continuous learning and growth, including developing innovative data processes for growth
  • Optimize usage of data and insights across the organization, serving as a business partner to investment, programs and other Inkomoko departments.
  • Develop and project-manage sophisticated data models, potentially including machine learning/AI for automated decision making based on our data insights
  • Create and ensure adherence to SOPs, work plans
  • Coordinate with the Research team to ensure data is available for advancing research questions
  • Work closely with IT team to ensure efficient data storage, security and retrieval

Generate and communicate insights

  • Develop and implement comprehensive tools and strategies that allow raw data to be transformed into business insights.
  • Apply data to create insight on Inkomoko’s theory of change and impact
  • Create visualizations and reports to communicate insights to stakeholders
  • Alight MEL data systems with the needs of various stakeholders, including board, C-suite, program departments, and research head.

Minimum Qualifications

The candidate should be at an advanced level within the data and M&E domain and bring years of relevant experience to the role, including previous staff management experience.  The ideal candidate will fulfill the following requirements:

  • Previous experience in data management in a complex and fast-scaling environment in East Africa
  • At least 7 years management experience in MEL/Data roles
  • Master’s degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, or other relevant field
  • Experience in Python, R, or SQL as well as BI tools like Power BI or Tableau
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, as needed to communicate data results to a variety of audiences
  • Conceptual understanding of self-reliance indices and other industry standards are a strong preference
