Job Description

The Ethiopian Diabetes Association was established on January 23, 1984 G.C (1976E.C) for the purpose of providing a forum to diabetes patients so that they can discuss ways of prevention, the provision of information and treatment for all affected by diabetes.  It is the first patient-based association in the country.

Our organization would like to hire a qualified candidate for the head office and seven branch associations on the following position.

Position summary:  

The branch association Nurse will be responsible for the overall day to day activities of the association and other activities in the assigned field site.

Major Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Establish and strengthen the collaboration of branch association with their respective hospital.
  • Represent the branch association in any kind of public meeting, social events and other community activities.
  • Facilitate Monthly Diabetes health education and patient forum in cooperation with the hospital NCD department.
  •  Monthly base Identification of those members of the branch association who have infrequent follow up and drop outs.
  • Regulate and monitor the hospital dispensary system of all T1 and T2 DM drugs, glucometers, strips, lancets, syringes and others supplied to the branch association by Ethiopian Diabetes Association.
  • Routine counseling to both T1 and T2 DM patients on diet, exercise, complication prevention, life style modifications and assure all the diabetic patient obtained the basic necessary screening on timely base (FBS/RBS, HA1C, BMI, BP, and others).
  • Offer the necessary nursing care and emotional support to any patient of the branch association who needs close attention and follow up both in facility and home set up.
  • Submit monthly, quarterly and annual reports to the immediate supervisor on timely base and effectively implement any top urgent duties demanded by EDA in accordance with the required standard and quality.
  • Properly regulate and keep records, models and other important documents of the branch association.

Employment Category: One-year contract with possibility of extension

Location:  EDA head office, Addis Ababa and Seven branch associations in Oromia region (Holeta, Sendafa, Ginchi, Inchini, Arsi Negele, Jima and Ginir area branch association)

Job Requirements

Education: 

  • BSc degree in Nursing from recognized university/College

Experience: 

  • A minimum of 2-5 years of relevant professional experience in similar position.

Additional Training: 

  • Computer Training Certificate /excellent computer usage
  • Training on National NCD/Diabetes Management Protocol

Competencies/ Technical skills 

  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and work under pressure
  • Nursing license and Prior experience as a nurse
  • In depth knowledge and skill of Nursing arts
  • Facilitation, counseling and coordination skills
  •  Knowledge on diabetes and other NCDs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good planning and prioritizing skill.
