Job Description

Reporting to the Woreda project Coordinator, Assistant, Watershed Management Facilitator will provide logistical support to the implementation of the project activities that include forest restoration and conservation, participatory forest and land use planning, watershed management, forest enterprise development, capacity building and others as per the project document, outcomes and deliverables in the kebele.

GGGI has a diverse portfolio of programs in developing countries around the world. These in-country programs, together with global products and services, focus on delivering results through an integrated approach of evidence-based green growth planning and implementation aligned to countries’ development priorities. The organization also focuses on knowledge development and management activities which build a strong theoretical and empirical basis for green growth, while providing concrete options and guidance for policy makers; as well as building the conditions for public and private green infrastructure investments.

GGGI is implementing a KOICA funded “Climate Resilient Forest and Landscape Restoration (CRFLR) project in Ethiopia” in partnership with national and regional government partners. The overall goal of this project is to secure provision of ecosystem services and improve climate resilience and green growth that contributes to national development strategy, GGGI’s strategic outcomes and sustainable development goals.

PURPOSE
  • Provide logistical support and facilitates all activities that are carried out with the local community;
  • Support and promote women’s participation in land use planning, community watershed users’ associations
  • Initiate and facilitate community mobilization and ensure community engagement in the implementation of planned project activities through participatory approach
  • support the technical staff of the project both at Federal and regional level in their engagement with the local community
  • Support the implementation of project activities and ensure consistent with the existing norms and the community-based watershed management guidelines
  • Facilitate the establishment of functional Watershed Users Associations (WUAs) in the selected watersheds and communities
  • Work together with the project team and woreda and kebele offices to achieve the project outputs and outcomes at his/her specific kebele
  • Facilitate field visits, experience sharing visits at the community level
  • Keep record of attendance of daily laborers and prepare payment request
DELIVERY
  • Assist in detailed implementation of project at kebele level with the participation of the community, woreda offices and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure project activities of the kebele are adhere to the national and international safeguard requirements
  • Support monitoring the establishment and development of nursery sites
  • Support monitoring on gender that is integrated throughout the project activities
  • Support the development of watershed management plan
  • Ensure the quality of work is done to the required standard
  • Support on documentation and dissemination of field best practices and lessons
REQUIREMENT
  • BA degree in Forestry, watershed management, rural development or, Public Administration, Finance and related fields. MSc degree is preferred.
  • Proven experience in landscape restoration and/or watershed management approaches
  • Project planning and reporting, documentation, and communications is an advantage
  • Fluency in local language of the region/area (Afan Oromo for Oromia Region and Sidaamu Afoo for Sidama Region) is highly desirable
  • Computer literacy. Good level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Excellent communication, proficient in English (verbal and written)
  • Preferably 4-5 years of work experiences in forestry and watershed management and community development and administrative
