ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTION

The Ethiopian Medical Association (EMA) is one of the pioneering professional Associations in Ethiopia. The Association was formally established on July 2, 1962 G.C with 100 founding members. EMA is a member of the World Medical Association since 1994 G.C and currently has more than 3500 registered members.

EMA’s head office is based in Addis Ababa and has a presence in five regions represented by its nine regional branch offices (Gonder, Mekelle, Bahir Dar, Dessie, Jimma, Adama, Harere, Hawassa and Arba Minch). EMA has been operational for over 59 years on promoting quality of medical service in Ethiopia and evidence-based medicine through publishing the Ethiopian Medical Journal (EMJ). The mission of the association is to: Ensure that the community gets quality health service and care; promote the highest standards in medical education, science, art and practice and ensure the rights and benefits of medical professionals (doctors) and act as their voice

Thus, the association would like to invite experienced and competent candidates for the following listed vacant posts:

JOB SUMMARY

Ethiopian Medical Association is facilitating Ethiopian Medical Journal 60th anniversary and 5th Doctors’ day celebration events. To realize the events activities, we have planned to recruit an assistant resource mobilization and event organizer. The objective of this assignment is to prepare a plan for resource mobilizing service, follow up the status of the resource mobilization activities and exhibition fund raising in collaboration with the outsourced resource mobilizing consultant and organizes the main events of 5thDoctors’ Day& EMJ 60th anniversary celebrations upcoming month of July, 2022.

 Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Assistant resource mobilization and event organizer should provide detailed work plan in consultation with resource mobilizing consultant for revenue generation processes and receive feedback on functions and responsibilities.
  • Facilitate the settling of convenient event hall with sufficient space for events live celebration.
  • Follow up, facilitate and collect the activities of pledged revenue generation and participate on other event related activities.
  • Support the overall marketing and event organizing team at the secretariat office as well as outsourced resource mobilizing consultant.
  • Promote the local pharmaceutical, drug manufacturers, NGO’s and other potential exhibitors and conference sponsors based on the provided list.
  • Promote the international pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers with in EMA data base and their own contact to exhibit.
  • Willing to take responsibility on any other events which enhance the marketing strategy for the event.
  • Willing to spend his/her full time during the pre-event preparation to post event finalization date.
  • Prepare the resource mobilization and event activities report after the completion of the event.
  • Identify partners’ requirements and expectations for each event.
  • Follow up the demands of confirmed partners need and address their concern in collaboration with Resource mobilizing consultant
  • Perform other duties assigned to him /her by the immediate supervisor.

Work Unit: Ethiopian Medical Journal Department

Reports To: EMA technical and leading team   

Duration: Short term contract Two months

Job Requirements

Education and Qualification

  • BA Degree in any field of studies.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience on similar /related position in public or private institutions in organizing events and resource mobilization are advantageous.
  • Desired Criteria (An Asset)
  • Experience in International, local NGO & professional association’s environment is advantageous

  • Ability to work independently
  • Being self-motivated and highly organized, detail oriented.
  • Being flexible and able to work well under pressure and prioritizing ability.

  • Having strong team player skills and interest.
  • Having good facilitation skills.

Required Skills & Abilities:       

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong MS office and the ability to use new technology
  • Knowledge of records management( both manual and computerized systems)
  • Event management
  • Scheduling and calendar management

Language

  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Amharic.
