AHF -ETH is supporting the comprehensive HIV prevention and care and treatment of PLHIV in 28 health facilities including St Paul’s Hospital Millenium Medical college

The organization is looking for experienced candidates to be deployed to the Supported health facilities where it provides programmatic support on HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and care for the following positions.

Vacancy Position Detail
  1. Position: ART Nurse
  2. Number of Vacancies: One (1)
  3. Duty Station: AHF Addis Medium Clinic , Addis Ababa.

Position Summary:

The ART Nurse will be responsible to provide routine HIV-related clinical services with more focus on adult clients care at Addis clinic which is providing care for more than 3780 active ART clients and will oversee the general nursing care of all patients and clinic coordination for related health needs of clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In close collaboration with the Medical Coordinator and other clinical staffs, ensure the provision of comprehensive, quality, evidence based ART (including early initiation for the eligible and ready patients), PMTCT, TB/HIV co management, OI management, and Prevention with Positives (PwP), STI/SCM, care for HEI, management of malnutrition, HIV FP integration, retention to care, treatment failure, MDR-TB to both Adult and Pediatric Patient
  • Refill the regular medication for patients who do not need physician attention and facilitate the physician consultation as needed
  • In collaboration with the other medical team members, ensure that AHF Addis client’s early initiation of ART, have VIRAL LOAD suppression and high CD4 count and maintain appointments.
  • Confirm the enrollment of newly registered client and collaborate with data clerk to make sure that all registered client is officially enrolled to AHF-Addis clinic.
  • Participate in review meetings and CAM as assigned by the ART clinician and Health officer and share the experience and resolution MDAT and implement action points indicated as your duty.
  • Provide adherence counseling during initiation of ART and on follow-up visits.
  • Take part in the implementation of Optimizing Retention initiative (ORI)
  • Ensure ICT is being implemented on the adult side as per the standard (eligible clients are encoded on the register, all elicited clients are followed up on their outcome at least once a week)
  • Coordinate the Adult Support group:  Recruitment, coordination of meeting, reviewing reports…
  • Work with the clinical team members to improve the clinic performance related to FP, HIV index testing, cervical cancer screening, IPT initiation, minimizing waiting time, clinical documentation, and other performance indicators
  • In collaboration with other clinical teams, build good rapport with clients, address grievances in a timely manner, and deliver compassionate care.
  • Coordinate the vocational training of clinic client that is to be given by partner organization
  • Provide support to clients who need Partner/Marriage counseling
  • Facilitate disclosure of HIV test result with designated patient supporter or partner/family
  • Participate in the referral and linkage of patient for community service and within the facility. Follow the outcome of the referral and support patients in the preparation of medical certificate, medical reports and related services
  • Participate in the multidisciplinary AIDS team (MDAT) meetings and implement recommendations.
  • Take part in the HIV-FP integration program: Registration, monitoring, and reporting
  • Attend CME session organized by AHF for up-to-date information and patient management
  • Take part in the implementation of a continuous quality assurance and improvement program at the clinical service by participating in qualitative/quantitative measurement on regular basis. Strive for high quality and client centered service (simplified workflow & shorter waiting time)
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation and utilization of national ART recording formats of all treatment services (i.e. patient chart forms, lab investigation result, FP register, HEI) and other facility specific clinical service registration formats (such as daily registration). Prepare and deliver reports using the appropriate formats
  • In collaboration with the Medical Coordinator or Senior Clinical Officer, provide emergency care for clients who need pre-referral resuscitation
  • Participate in the development of annual/quarter plan and monitor their implementation
  • Execute clinical service-related activities as given by the Senior Clinical officer, National Medical Director or Country Program Manager
  • Execute with integrity focal assignments and posts assigned by either the Senior Clinical officer, Medical coordinator or the National Medical Director

Education, Qualification, and Experience

  • Diploma in Clinical Nursing from a recognized institution; having midwifery or other health background is an added advantage
  • At least three (3)years’ recent experience in HIV program activities, with particular emphasis on ART service delivery, in a similar international NGO or developmental agency
  • Recent training on Basic ART (Adult and/or Ped ) would be a necessity; additional training on PMTCT, HCT and TB/HIV, MDR TB, Nutritional management for PLWH, ART Lab, AHD, is an advantage
  • Enjoys working as a member of a cohesive multi-cultural team, and is good at doing so
  • Basic computer/software skills and abilities required
  • Good communication skills in English and Amharic
