Background
The UN Health Care Center is located in United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, under the Division of Administration. UNHCC has the responsibility to provide medical services to all UN staff and the eligible dependents based in Ethiopia on a 24 hours/7 days’ basis. The present ToR is intended to guide the Ambulance Driver in the dispensation of their duties at UNHCC to ensure clients’ satisfaction and respect the organization’s rules and regulations from the health standpoint of view. The objective of this recruitment is to provide smooth services to clients. The Ambulance Driver will provide services to the UNHCC patients and clients mainly COVID-19 related cases; the Medical Doctors, the Head nurses and UNHCC team.
Duties and Responsibilities
Drives UNHCC vehicles as well as UN Ambulances as needed to, safely transport patients to different hospitals in Addis Ababa, and for the transport of UNHCC medical equipment.

• Makes deliveries of parcels, documents, etc., between the office and other UN offices and institutions,e.g. Other Hospitals, Ministries, Embassies, etc.

• Makes minor purchases and collects urgent purchases from local suppliers as requested.

Collect goods or medicines from the drag stores with due regard to UN regulations and formalities. May make payment for goods purchased using petty cashes.

• Meets patients, UNHCC medical team or official personnel at the airport when required.

• Deals effectively and tactfully with officials and visitors.

• Facilitates airport permits for patients who will be evacuated on wheelchair cases

• Takes care of the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, checks oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc.; performs minor repairs and arranges for other repairs and ensures that vehicle is kept clean.

• Logs fuel transport services in the log-book records, inform the administration assistant when maintenance is initiated by the Transport Unit etc.

• Ensures that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of accident.

• Support the paramedic team in client care and transportation.

• Applies good judgment in the context of assignments given.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Adhere all the COVID-19 infection preventive instructions 99% absence of car accidents or all-time safe driving 100% adherence to road traffic rules and safety measures.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Driver training with 3rd level  a valid driver’s license. Additional automotive certificates, training certificates on defensive driving would be an advantage.

Experience:

  • 4 Years’ Experience as a driver with a safe driving record. Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans and other kinds of motorised vehicles.

Language Requirements:

  • Oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage
