Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine. Samaritan’s Purse is privileged to be part of the humanitarian effort in Ethiopia and legally registered as foreign charity to work in Ethiopia since October 08, 2018.

JOB SUMMARY 

The agriculture officer is responsible to undertake implementation of agriculture related activities of the project in horticulture, gardening, poultry and IGA. The officer work closely with Livelihood coordinator, sector agriculture offices and communities to support livelihoods recovery attempts in conflict affected communities.    

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Carry out livelihood activities including with specific focus on horticulture, gardening, poultry production, IGA and cash assistance.
  • Engage in beneficiary selection with specific selection criteria for horticulture, gardening, poultry production and cash assistance.
  • Provide on/off farm trainings for farmers (beneficiaries) on specific topics of horticulture, vegetable farming, and poultry production.
  • Conduct day to day follow up on beneficiary farms, provide appropriate technical support and advice.
  • Organize experience sharing sessions among beneficiaries and cascade good practices.
  • Community mobilization for livelihood interventions.
  • Produce and submit period progress reports on the performance of the livelihood project activities
  • Perform any other duty assigned

Job Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • BA/Bsc Degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Plant Science
  • Technical Training qualifications required:  professional technical skill associated with livelihood assessment, horticulture, poultry production, is desired
  • Minimum of 2 years direct work experience in implementation of horticulture and livelihood projects.
  • Direct NGO experience is an asset
  • Experience of working in IGA and poultry production is an asset

·       Amharic and English (spoken and written required)
