Background of the Project

The P4FP Ethiopia project is working at the nexus of the regenerative agriculture (RA) and productive use of renewable energy (PURE) areas. The project aims to drive system transformation in the RA and PURE nexus by promoting regenerative agriculture (RA) practices that restore ecosystems, enhance productivity, and integrate with renewable energy solutions for sustainable market systems and inclusive growth. The project will apply an innovative hybrid implementation model where it leverages existing initiatives and expertise within the ecosystem and connects actors to facilitate processes and encourage synergies.

The P4FP Ethiopia project falls under the Strategic Partnership umbrella programme. The Strategic Partnership programme will provide strategic steering and support to the RA-PURE nexus portfolio (in and beyond SNV), with dedicated programmes towards advancing the RA-PURE nexus in Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda.

Purpose of the Job:

The Agribusiness Advisor will support the adoption and scaling of Regenerative Agriculture (RA) practices and Productive Use of Renewable Energy (PURE) technologies and energy services among smallholder farmers, vendors, local entrepreneurs, cooperatives, and service providers across the value chain. Working closely with P4FP partners, the Advisor will contribute to viability analyses of RA-PURE interventions, helping demonstrate their potential to improve smallholder productivity and income. This includes supporting partners to identify and promote appropriate PURE technologies and energy services that respond to the needs of smallholder farmers and other value chain actors. The role will also provide technical support on RA-PURE integration strategies, coordinate implementation with local extension providers and partnership partners, and contribute to the project’s learning agenda, knowledge development, and knowledge management activities.

The Agribusiness Advisor is part of the SNV Ethiopia team and works in the project ‘Power for Food Partnership Ethiopia’ under the Energy Sector.

S/he will report directly to the PURE Advisor. The position is for the whole project period

Advisory Services

Acts as technical expert for the Partnership Lead and aims to create an enabling environment (by sharing knowledge, understanding stakeholders and environment) for the implementation of the partnership, for the partnership to meet its objectives. Ensures, monitors progress and reviews quality of own expertise and ensures partners/client support and satisfaction during projects. Specifically, the Advisor is expected to:

• Participate in PURE technology assessments to identify the most appropriate solutions for adoption by smallholder farmers, vendors, and other value chain actors.
• Support the training and coaching of extension service providers on RA-PURE practices, technology adoption, and practical field application.
• Assist extension service providers to deliver inclusive, needs-based, and practical trainings to men, women, and young farmers.
• Support the testing, demonstration, and validation of profitable PURE technologies with smallholder farmers and agribusiness actors.
• Facilitate and provide support to technical field missions led by the partnership lead and other relevant partners.
• Support smallholder farmers, vendors, cooperatives, and local entrepreneurs to promote, adopt, and scale evidence-based RA-PURE technologies, services, and practices.
• Support the integration of PURE solutions into agribusiness models to improve productivity, efficiency, and income opportunities.
• Assist in the implementation and monitoring of business cases that apply PURE technologies within selected value chains.
• • Contribute to the project’s learning agenda, knowledge development, and exchange of RA-PURE experiences and lessons across participating countries.

• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Farming Systems and Engineering, such as Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Engineering, Development Studies, etc
• Minimum of 4-5 years of experience of working in a similar sector.
• Knowledge of technical aspects of RA-PURE intervention and the linkage.
• Experience in farmer extension, SME advising, and agribusiness case development;
• Experience in partnership management and stakeholder engagement
• Experience in the application of the PURE technologies in the agriculture sector and financial analysis of PURE technologies will be a plus;
• Experience working with female entrepreneurs and gender integration approaches, as well as young-agri-entrepreneurs;
• Knowledge of RA – PURE innovations and farmer adoption.
• Excellent communication (written and oral), reporting and presentation skills;
• Willingness to travel to all partnership intervention locations
• Support the development of business models and financing mechanisms to scale RA adoption among smallholder farmers and agribusiness operators.
• Organize workshops, peer-learnings, and field demonstrations to support knowledge and evidence generation and disseminations.
• Document and disseminate best practices, lessons learned, and success stories to inform project activities and influence broader sector development.
