Mission and objectives

UNDP works in about 170 countries and territories, helping to eradicate poverty, reduce inequalities and exclusion, and build resilience so countries can sustain progress. As the UN’s development agency, UNDP plays a critical role in helping countries achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Context

Agenda 2063 is Africa’s long-term development blueprint for achieving “The Africa We Want.” As the continent is in the Decade of Acceleration, there is increasing recognition that delivering Agenda 2063 requires more than awareness of continental aspirations and policy frameworks. It requires citizens, institutions, young people, communities, businesses, and leaders to position themselves as active contributors within systems that create value, solve problems, and sustain progress over time. The “Agenda 2063 in Power Spaces” traineeship was established to support this shift – from awareness to contribution, from inspiration to execution, and from participation to stewardship. The first cohort of the initiative attracted more than 600 participants from across the world and generated important lessons regarding engagement, delivery systems, accountability, and the need to position Agenda 2063 not only as a policy framework, but also as a multi-market platform through which Africans can contribute to building the Africa We Want. Building on these lessons, the second cohort will engage 500 Online Volunteers through a structured 7-week traineeship combined with a longer-term engagement model.

The traineeship will support participants to define their contribution across the decades leading to 2063, identify the values and routines that will sustain their journey, and develop practical pathways for action within their respective power spaces. The traineeship also seeks to strengthen a growing continental network of young people and practitioners committed to long-term transformation, collaboration, and delivery of Agenda 2063 aspirations and related Moonshots. At the end of the traineeship, participants will produce a “Letter from the Future” dated 30 January 2063, reflecting on the Africa that was realized and the role they played in shaping it.

Task description

We are seeking the support of 140 Online Volunteers to engage with Agenda 2063 within their respective Power Spaces through a 7-week traineeship designed to move participants from awareness to structured contribution, execution, and long-term stewardship for the Africa We Want. This is the Second Cohort of the “Agenda 2063 in Power Spaces” Traineeship. The first cohort attracted over 600 participants from across the world and generated important lessons in both approach and delivery. One of the most important lessons was the need to shift from viewing Agenda 2063 merely as a policy instrument toward understanding it as a multi-market platform through which young people, institutions, communities, businesses, and citizens can create value and contribute to continental transformation.

The traineeship is designed as both a learning and delivery journey. Participants will reflect on their role in shaping Africa’s future across the decades leading to 2063, identify the values and routines that will sustain their contribution, and position themselves within Agenda 2063 as active builders of the Africa We Want. Selected Online Volunteers will be provided with relevant background materials, facilitation resources, communication guidance, and strategic context necessary to participate effectively in the traineeship.

At the end of the traineeship, participants will produce a “Letter from the Future,” dated 30 January 2063, written to their younger selves in 2026. The letter will reflect on the Africa that was realized, the choices made, the routines established, and the contribution participants made toward delivering Agenda 2063 over the decades.

The 7-week traineeship is structured as follows:

– Week 1: What the first cohort taught us

– Week 2: The Gap Between Today and 2063

– Week 3: Agenda 2063 Multi-Market Platform

– Week 4: Values for The Africa We Want

– Week 5: Routines that deliver the future

– Week 6: Letter from the future

– Week 7: The first 385 Days

Through this traineeship, Online Volunteers will have the opportunity to engage with a growing continental movement focused on transforming Agenda 2063 from vision into lived progress through contribution, execution, and sustained action. In preparation please complete the survey on the values for the Africa we Want: https://forms.office.com/r/S0bYyMTSpt. It will give you a sense of the traineeship.
