Project Background

Transformative Land Investment is a Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC)-funded project running from 2022 to 2025. It is implemented by a consortium of five organization – the Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) as the lead, the Centre for People and Forests (RECOFTC), Land Equity International (LEI), World Agroforestry (ICRAF), and Netherlands Development Organization (SNV) – in five target countries (Ethiopia, Mozambique, Ghana, Laos, and Myanmar).

The general objective of the TLI project is to contribute to national and global sustainable food systems, with gender-sensitive, socially inclusive, land tenure security, and to improve livelihoods, resilience, and ecosystem health, among populations in Ethiopia, Mozambique, Ghana, Laos, Myanmar, and beyond.

TLI seeks to promote a paradigmatic shift toward Transformative Land Investment (TLI) to nurture development as well as the livelihood conditions of smallholder farmers. It focuses on three interrelated pathways: (1) investors; (2) the national business ecosystem; and (3) the global and regional development community.

Purpose of the job

The TLI advisor is responsible to implement the project with intensive contribution and technical leadership on planning of the project. He/she will coordinate MSPs and engagement with stakeholders, similar platforms engage in preparation & development of assessments and validations and take part in the process. The adviser will monitor the project and lead preparation of timely reports and regularly provide country specific strategic direction and support SNV’s Project Manager to represent the project, nationally, regionally, and globally. Working closely with component leads design, regularly review and adapt lesson, learning and new insights to meet the project’s overarching goal. The Advisor also works in line with SNV’s project management standards, approaches, and donor regulations, to achieve high quality results and deliverables of the project. The advisor is expected to have full understanding and internalization of the project, its principles and tools (RR model), BTL and other important components.

The TLI-Advisor shall contribute to realization of project objectives and results  with quality and to the expectation of the donor.   The TLI  advisor directly reports to the TLI country lead and he/she works closely with component leads, multicounty project manager, stakeholders, and technical & financial team.

Key Activities:

  • Project Planning and Implementation
  • Organizes and facilitates the knowledge-sharing forums
  • Promotes synergies and linkage between TLI project and other related initiatives including MSP platforms
  • Produce timely documentation and cases
  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with all partners
  • Represents SNV at GO-NGO forum, MSP meetings, and other relevant events.
  • Coordinates activities with consortium partners, subgrantees, local government, and other implementers and collaborates with other SNV projects
  • Ensures gender equity and equality are incorporated into the project design and promote women’s empowerment
  • Ensures particular issues faced by marginalized communities in LBI are addressed and the communities are engaged and have equal access to rights and resources.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • MA or MSc.  degree in Development Management, Agricultural Economics, Agriculture, business development, and other related fields
  • Six or more years of experience in valid and demonstratable experience in Transformative Land-based investment, value chain development, business development and private sector engagement, organizing and facilitating MSPs, and in food security and livelihoods programs

Additional Information

Contract Type: National

Expected start date: As soon as possible

Duty Station:  Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Contract Duration: one year with the possibility of extension based on performance and budget availability.
