Job Description

Ipas is a non-profit making organization with a head office based in North Carolina, USA, working to improve women’s lives focusing on reproductive health.  Since 2000, Ipas Ethiopia has been collaborating with the Ministry of Health (MOH), Regional Health Bureaus (RHBs) and various local partners to make comprehensive contraception, post abortion and safe abortion services available and reduce abortion related maternal morbidity and mortality in the country.

In light of the need to strengthen our relationship with stakeholders and expedite programme implementation, we are planning to hire the following position:-

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Lead and facilitate adolescent/youth and community engagement intervention programs to increase access to acceptable, affordable, and quality SRH information and services to the community in Ipas project areas with focus on women and young girls.

Build strong working relationship with Ipas team and our external partners and stakeholders for effective implementation of the projects targeted to enhance adolescent/youth participation and increase community awareness and engagement on SRH aligned with Ipas’s strategic priorities, mission, and vision.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Adolescent and youth:

  • Plan and manage the adolescent/youth activities of Ipas Ethiopia in all intervention areas across the country
  • Provide in-person technical support through field visit to adolescent/youth projects in their respective implementation areas
  • Support the development of concept notes, work plans, budgets, and other related activities related to adolescent/youth programs
  • Support/conduct monitoring and evaluation of activities including preparation of monitoring reports, documenting best practices and lessons learned
  • Contribute to the design, development, and use of IEC/BCC tools to enhance access to information on SRH to adolescent/youth
  • Participate and represent Ipas Ethiopia in national and regional adolescent/youth platforms and forums, explore and nurture new and existing adolescent/youth partnerships that contribute to meeting project objectives
  • Develop partnerships with various youth groups, health care providers, community health workers, and the public/private health system to ensure their involvement in the implementation of adolescent/youth programs
  • Lead, execute and monitor all project work plans, milestones, and document progress of key adolescent/youth programs related deliverables

Community works

  • Plan and execute community engagement interventions of Ipas Ethiopia in collaboration with community-based organizations (CBOs) and other relevant stake holders
  • Conduct pre-award assessment of CBOs using robust risk determination tool prior to awarding grants
  • Appraise project proposals, award sub-grants, review and monitor financial and programmatic reports from sub-grantees based on agreed timetable
  • File and store all contractual documents in secure and retrievable place
  • Provide in-person technical support to sub-grantees through field visit to community project implementation areas and capacity building exercises
  • Develop close collaboration with governmental and non-governmental organizations implementing community intervention programs to facilitate cross organizational learning
  • Represent Ipas in county community intervention fora to share good practices and ensure the achievement of advocacy and policy objectives
  • Facilitate and lead technical assistance and insights for digital-health platform design, development, implementation, and continued improvement
  • Participate in in-house review meetings, grant proposal writing, and documentation and reporting of project performances to government partners and donors
  • Perform other duties as deemed necessary

Report to: Program Manager

Terms of employment: One year with possibilities for extension

Job Requirements

Core Requirement

Education

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree on health, public health, social sciences, or related fields

Experience

  • Demonstrated progressive experience with a mix of practical technical skills in adolescent/youth, and community outreach programming necessary for strengthening adolescent/youth service delivery at health facility and community levels
  • At least five years for bachelor’s degree and three years for master’s degree in adolescent/youth and community outreach program development, implementation, and provision of technical support
  • Experience in working with government partners preferably the public health sector, donors and NGOs on adolescent/youth and community programs
  • Experience in implementing youth and community projects involving diverse partners and consortia
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the national adult/youth strategies, policies, and guidelines

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Amharic. Being conversant in additional local languages is a plus
  • Demonstrated skills on teamwork and ability to work independently
  • Ability to work within time-limits and under pressure and with minimal supervision
  • Conversant on basic computer skills and applications
  • Able to demonstrate high level of honesty, integrity, flexibility, and punctuality
  • Able to travel and perform professionally during field works
