Sida also has staff seconded to Swedish foreign authorities. This position is located at the Swedish Embassy in Addis Ababa. The embassy works integrated between different areas of activity and you are expected to contribute actively to the embassy’s overall mission. Within development cooperation, we work in close cooperation with each other and together with colleagues in the embassy’s other sections to create sustainable development results for the poorest and most vulnerable.

This position means:

The embassy is responsible for implementing the strategy for Sweden’s regional development cooperation in Africa. The portfolio includes cooperation with regional actors such as the African Union, IGAD, ECOWAS and others, as well as UN agencies and civil society actors with regional activities. Sweden is an important player and advocate for regional development and you will be part of a competent team that, together with partners, implements the strategy.

The position involves, together with colleagues, taking responsibility for the implementation of regional development cooperation in Africa with the following main tasks:

  • Develop and manage the investment portfolio in migration
  • Conduct an active dialogue at sector and effort level and, if necessary, lead groups of actors to mobilize commitment / capital and pursue universal norms and Sweden’s value issues
  • Provide advice and support to team members and other employees in integrating migration issues in development cooperation and contribute to learning internally and externally
  • Contribute to portfolio analysis, business planning, implementation, follow-up and reporting within development assistance
  • Participate actively in Sida’s thematic work in the area of ​​migration.

Qualifications

Training:

  • Academic degree in a subject relevant to the assignments

Experience:

  • Good experience of development cooperation
  • Solid knowledge of migration issues

Abilities:

  • Very good analytical and communicative ability
  • Ability to conduct processes and dialogues and, if necessary, lead groups of partners / donors / stakeholders to achieve common goals

Language:

  • Very good knowledge of Swedish and English in speech and writing

Personal characteristics:

We attach great importance to personal abilities and are looking for you who have a good ability to lead yourself by being independent, taking initiative and pushing issues forward. You need to have a good ability to collaborate with several parties, good communicative ability and be able to conduct dialogue as well as the ability to create trust among those you meet and work with. You should also be flexible in dealing with the unpredictable and be solution-oriented. The situation at the station can be very challenging and the person we are looking for must therefore be a stable person with personal maturity.

In addition to the above, we also view the following positively:

  • Good knowledge of French in speech and writing
  • Experience of working in a development context and / or within an international organization

Investment

The position is located at the Swedish embassy in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, where the employee is sent from the Africa department at Sida. Currently, the situation in Ethiopia makes it difficult to move there with family. The work involves regular follow-up trips to partners on the continent.

Form of employment and access

Three-year fixed-term employment with desired access no later than 16 August 2022. We would like to see an earlier entry into Addis Ababa if conditions allow, or the service will begin in Stockholm from April.

About Sida and the department

Sida, the Board for International Development Cooperation, is a government agency that works on behalf of the Swedish Parliament and Government to reduce poverty in the world. Through our work and together with others, we contribute to implementing Sweden’s policy for global development. Sida has more than 700 employees between three offices in Sweden and in Swedish foreign authorities in partner countries.

The Africa department implements Sweden’s development cooperation with countries in Africa. The department has approximately 270 employees and handles a budget of just over SEK 7 billion.

Today, about 60 people work at the embassy, ​​of which 23 are seconded from Sweden. Regional development assistance is governed by the strategy for Sweden’s regional development cooperation with Africa, which covers the areas of 1) environment and climate, 2) democracy, human rights and gender equality, 3) economic integration and trade, 4) migration, and 5) peace and security. The regional development cooperation amounts to approximately SEK 850 million per year.
