Mission and objectives

The Office of the Special Envoy is mandated to support the region in sustaining the gains in peace and security, including the transition process in the Sudan and the ongoing peace process in South Sudan. The Office of the Special Envoy is responsible for supporting IGAD, in line with the framework for cooperation between the United Nations and IGAD signed in Djibouti on 17 November 2015, and other relevant regional organizations in promoting peace and security across the Horn of Africa.

This primarily involves enhancing sub-regional conflict prevention and mediation capacities and working with partners to address cross-cutting issues such as the Women, Peace and Security agenda, the Youth, Peace and Security agenda and Climate, Peace, and Security issues. On this basis, the Special Envoy is tasked with carrying out good offices role and special assignments on behalf of the Secretary-General as required. The mission has been tasked with enhancing linkages in the work of the United Nations and other partners in the Horn of Africa region, to promote a joined-up regional approach, including facilitating coordination and information exchange within the United Nations system.

Context

This task is for the graphic design of the 15th Joint Regional Analysis (JRA) for the Horn of Africa, which is an internal UN document. The JRA is a key deliverable under the Regional Prevention and Integration Strategy for the Horn of Africa, and aims to provide a snapshot of key regional trends, emerging risks and projected changes in the region over a four-month period. The drafting process is a collaborative UN-wide effort, coordinated and led by the Office of the Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa.

Task description

We are looking for 1 Online Volunteer who have experience graphic design of policy report. The task will include the following responsibilities:

– Collect information on document/material background such as target audience, design style, branding guidelines etc.; – Create draft design based on requirements and discuss with focal point;

– Develop the design according to agreed requirements.

The Online Volunteer will have the opportunity to build connection with the Office of the Special Envoy’s focal point on the JRA and learn about the how the JRA is conducted within the United Nation nations system.

Assignment requirements

Required experience
  • Candidates should have professional experience in graphic design with previous experience in designing document layouts, and must have in-depth knowledge of graphic design applications, as well as good verbal and written communication skills.
  • A degree in graphic design or related field is considered an asset.
Languages
  • English, Level: Fluent, Required
