Main purpose of job:

The welder will be working as part of the post technical team. He will be line managed by the technical team supervisor.

The job holder main objective will be receiving and actioning all General work request that will require his expertise.

To cut and join metals and other materials at our workshops or construction sites, The welder will operate appropriate equipment to put together mechanical structures or parts with a great deal of precision. The job is important as it provides the foundation for strong infrastructure.

A welder must be competent in using potentially dangerous equipment following all safety precautions. The welder will also need to have a steady hand and great attention to detail. Knowledge of different kinds of metal and their properties is essential.

Roles and responsibilities:

1. As part of the technical team, the Job holder will be responsible to action all work request that will require his/her expertise – 90%

  • Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures
  • Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
  • Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
  • Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded.
  • Align components using callipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces.
  • Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead)
  • Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps.
  • Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws.
  • Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
  • Responds to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service for works requiring welding skill.
  • Help in the construction, alteration, repair, and maintenance of wooden structures, repair outdoor equipment including playground equipment, fences, gates, surfaces etc.

2. Safe workspace – 10% the job holder is expected to review risk assessment and create a safe working environment.

  • Carry out weekly machinery test and service
  • Review risk assessment and work permits daily
  • Work site management – cleaning, sorting and tagging

  • Welder competence certificate from a renowned institute
  • 5-year experience in welding work
  • Driving license Grade Auto
  • Proficient English and Amharic

  • Designing skill
  • Hazard spotting skill
  • Basic computer skills

  • The Job holder will take several health and safety training, toolbox talks, Hot works risk assessment and 5s Training.
