01. Accountant

Location:  Addis Ababa, Ethiopia   |    Deadline: April 14, 2026

Job Description

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Finance and Administrative Officer, the Accountant will support the financial management and accounting functions of AWPSI. The position holder will assist in maintaining financial records, processing payments, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and donor requirements.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Financial Record Management

The Accountant will support the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date financial records and documentation. Key tasks include:

  • Recording financial transactions in accounting software and maintaining proper filing of financial documents.
  • Ensuring all financial documents are properly organized and archived.

2. Payment Processing

  • Assist in preparing payment vouchers and processing payments in accordance with AWPSI financial procedures.
  • Verify supporting documents before payments are processed.

3. Budget and Financial Reporting

  • Assist in the preparation of periodic financial reports and budget tracking.
  • Support the Finance Officer in preparing donor financial reports and internal financial statements.
  • Monitor expenditures against approved budgets and report any discrepancies.

4. Bank and Cash Management

  • Assist in maintaining petty cash records and conducting regular cash reconciliations.
  • Support bank reconciliation processes and ensure timely recording of transactions.
  • Assist in preparing bank documentation and payment instructions when required.

5. Procurement and Financial Compliance

  • Support financial aspects of procurement processes in accordance with AWPSI and donor guidelines.
  • Ensure financial transactions comply with AWPSI policies, donor requirements, and national regulations.
  • Assist in preparing documents required for audits and financial reviews.

6. Administrative and Logistical Support

  • Provide financial and administrative support for workshops, trainings, and other project activities.
  • Assist in processing travel advances, per diems, and settlement of expenses related to project activities.
  • Support logistical and financial arrangements for events and meetings.

7. Monitoring and Documentation

  • Assist in monitoring financial documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Maintain proper financial files for project activities and donor reporting.
  • Support the preparation of documentation for internal and external audits.

Minimum Qualification and Other Requirements

Education:

  • BA degree in Accounting, or a related field.

Experience:
At least five years of relevant work experience in finance, accounting, or financial administration. Experience working with civil society organizations or development programs is an advantage.

Skills:

  • Proven Knowledge of PeachTree accounting software.

02. Office Assistant

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Finance and Administration Officer, the Office Assistant will provide administrative, clerical, and logistical support to ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of AWPSI’s office operations. The Office Assistant will also support documentation management, office organization, and basic logistical arrangements for meetings, trainings, and events.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Office Administration

The Office Assistant will support the day-to-day administrative functions of the office. Key responsibilities include:

  • Receiving visitors and directing them to the appropriate office or staff member.
  • Managing incoming and outgoing correspondence and documents.
  • Assisting in maintaining organized filing systems for office records and documents.
  • Supporting general office organization and ensuring the office environment is well maintained.

2. Documentation and Filing

  • Assist in organizing, filing, and maintaining office documents both in physical and digital formats.
  • Ensure proper archiving of administrative and program-related documents.
  • Support staff in retrieving documents when needed.

3. Logistical and Event Support

  • Assist in organizing meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
  • Support logistical arrangements such as preparing meeting rooms, distributing materials, and coordinating refreshments.
  • Assist in preparing attendance sheets, documentation, and meeting minutes when required.

4. Office Supplies and Equipment Management

  • Monitor office supplies and inform the administration when replenishment is required.
  • Assist in procurement and distribution of office supplies.
  • Ensure proper use and basic maintenance of office equipment such as printers, photocopiers, and other office materials.

5. Administrative Support

  • Assist staff with photocopying, scanning, printing, and binding documents.
  • Support preparation of letters, reports, and other administrative documents.
  • Assist in basic data entry and record keeping when needed.

6. Messenger and Coordination Duties

  • Support the delivery and collection of documents when required.
  • Assist in coordinating communication between AWPSI and partner institutions when assigned

03. Communication Officer

Job Description

Job Summary:

Under the guidance of the Deputy Director, assumes primary responsibility for planning, developing, and implementing communication strategies to promote AWPSI’s programs. The Communication Officer will also be responsible for developing partnerships with other relevant organizations and with AWPSI Network to disseminate information and create awareness about topical WPS issues and AWPSI’s programs and activities.

The main duty and responsibilities are:

Program Communications for advocacy and awareness

The Communication’s Officer will work closely with AWPSI Program and Research sections to ensure that relevant program materials such as Personal Stories, donors reports, proposals, factsheets, info-graphs etc. are developed and disseminated to donors and target groups through relevant media and network channels. The Communications Officer will assist AWPSI Program Officers and Research Officers in the proposal development stage to identify appropriate communication activities for the projects.

Media Relations

Develop and maintain contacts, materials and relationships with journalists and media outlets (print, TV, radio, web etc.) within and outside AWPSI to increase coverage of WPS issues in the media (print, broadcast and digital). With the approval of the direct supervisor and the executive director, the specific activities may include:

  • Draft and edit articles, press releases, human interest stories and other advocacy/information materials.
  • Collaborate with the media by organizing project site visits, facilitate photo coverage and TV footage and utilizing both web-based and traditional media as appropriate.
  • Monitor and evaluate the use and effectiveness of media materials.
  • Maintain a library of media coverage, clippings etc.
  • Clarify issues the need arise

Digital Communications/Social media

Maintain AWPSI’s website and social media sites (Facebook, Twitter and YouTube) such as daily monitoring, posting, content development etc…

AWPSI Brand and Communications

Ensure timely and quality production of advocacy and branding materials such as periodicals, annual and donor reports, supplements, calendars, briefing notes, Human Interest Stories, picture stories, videos, etc. The Communications Officer will develop and store communication materials, including digital, such as publications, press releases and clippings, photographs, audio-visual materials, web resources etc.

Relations with Donor

Develop and maintain an updated list of AWPSI donors and special interest groups. Assist in developing donor visit schedules/brochures, donor gifts and cards etc. Support preparation of background materials, briefs and information kits for visiting donors and high profile guests/visitors. The task includes travel planning, logistics and administrative arrangements.

Events/campaigns

Assist in organizing and generating public support for special events and campaigns to promote strategic WPS goals. Support organization of workshops, seminars, campaigns, events and project review meetings including agendas and meeting minutes.

Monitoring and evaluation

Monitor and evaluate impact of communication materials and advocacy events/campaigns to target audiences.

Working relationships

The Communications Officer will have to work closely with AWPSI Program Officers and Research Officers on a daily basis. He/She will maintain close interaction with communications, research and program staff of AWPSI network, and with entities associated with communications and WPS work within and outside the government, including the local media and WPS partners.

Minimum Qualification and other Requirements:

Education:

  • BA and above in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field.

Experience:

  • At least five years of similar work experience is required. Candidate should be able to work independently – with minimum supervision and guidance from supervisors. Demonstrated and extensive social media experience is an added advantage.

Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral Amharic and English communication skills are required. He/she should have advanced working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Power point, Excel and Publisher). Candidates with basic design and layout skills and adept in using Adobe Photoshop and PageMaker are an added advantage.
