Position: TSFP Measurer (1)
ROLE PURPOSE:
The TSFP Measurer’s primary role is to accurately assess and record the nutritional status of beneficiaries, specifically children under five and pregnant/lactating women (PLW), as part of the Targeted Supplementary Feeding Program. By taking precise anthropometric measurements (such as weight, height/length, and MUAC), the TSFP Measurer ensures that malnourished individuals are correctly identified, enrolled, and monitored during the program. This role is essential for ensuring that only eligible beneficiaries receive support, contributing to the program’s overall effectiveness in addressing malnutrition.
Activity Overview
The TSFP Measurer is responsible for conducting activities that revolve around accurately assessing the nutritional status of beneficiaries and supporting the overall implementation of the Targeted Supplementary Feeding Program (TSFP). This position holder will measure the weight, height/length, and MUAC (Mid-Upper Arm Circumference) of children under five and pregnant/lactating women (PLW).
He/she will identify and flag cases of moderate or severe acute malnutrition based on standardized thresholds and determine weight-for-height Z-scores (WHZ), or other criteria as specified in program guidelines. Moreover, the position holder will record all measurements accurately in beneficiary cards and program registers.
He/she will ensure proper documentation of data, including dates, measurement values, and beneficiary details, and will maintain an organized and secure record of program data to facilitate monitoring and reporting.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Measurement and Recording
• Accurately measure and record anthropometric data (e.g., weight, height, mid-upper arm circumference [MUAC], and presence of edema) for program beneficiaries.
• Ensure proper use and calibration of measurement equipment (e.g., scales, height boards, MUAC tapes).
• Maintain accurate and legible documentation in the TSFP beneficiary registers and cards.
Screening and Admission
• Identify malnutrition cases based on established criteria (e.g., MUAC thresholds, weight-for-height Z-scores, or clinical signs).
• Support the proper admission of eligible individuals (e.g., children under 5 years and pregnant/lactating women) into the program.
Data Management
• Maintain organized and up-to-date records of beneficiary data.
• Submit data and reports to the TSFP supervisor or nutrition officer in a timely manner.
Adherence to Protocols
• Ensure that all measurements follow standard protocols and guidelines.
• Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards when handling beneficiary data and interacting with the community.
Equipment and Supplies Management
• Ensure that measurement tools and supplies are adequately stocked and properly maintained.
• Report any damaged or missing equipment to the TSFP officer.
Communication and Coordination
• Provide clear information to beneficiaries and caregivers about the measurement process and program objectives.
• Work collaboratively with other TSFP team members to ensure smooth operations and proper beneficiary flow.
Hygiene and Safety
• Maintain cleanliness of measurement tools and the work environment to prevent the spread of infections.
• Follow health and safety protocols to protect both beneficiaries and staff.
Reporting and Accountability
• Report any challenges, errors, or issues encountered during the measurement process to the TSFP officer.
• Be accountable for the accuracy and reliability of the measurements taken and data recorded.
Community Engagement
• Respect cultural sensitivities and build trust with beneficiaries and caregivers.
• Support community mobilization efforts to encourage participation and attendance.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum requirement: Completion of secondary school (high school diploma or equivalent).
• Certificate or diploma in health, nutrition, or related fields (e.g., community health worker, nursing, or public health) is preferable.
• Previous experience in data collection, screening, or nutrition-related activities, especially in humanitarian or development contexts.
• Familiarity with malnutrition screening and measurement tools like MUAC tapes, weighing scales, and height boards.
• Experience working with TSFP or similar nutrition programs (e.g., CMAM programs) is preferred.
• Experience working in remote or rural settings.
• Knowledge of anthropometric measurement techniques (MUAC, weight, height, and edema detection).
• Ability to accurately complete beneficiary registers and records.
• Basic knowledge of malnutrition and its impact on health and development
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand for extended periods and carry lightweight equipment
• Physical fitness to perform measurements and work in the field.
LANGUAGE:
• Fluency in Local Language, Amharic, and English, both written and spoken.
OTHER SKILLS:

Additional Note
Hardship allowance will be paid 50% of the basic salary for Female staff and 40% of basic salary for Male staff.
