Organizational Overview
Nexus Ethiopia is a national Ethiopian Civil Society Organization committed to strengthening the resilience of vulnerable and crisis-affected communities through integrated Humanitarian–Development–Peace (HDP) Nexus programming, localization, partnership, and locally led humanitarian action.
Nexus Ethiopia, in partnership with other humanitarian actors, is implementing project entitled Integrated Lifesaving Humanitarian Response for Drought, Flood and Displacement-Affected Communities in Afambo and Amibara Woredas, Afar Region.
Project Background
The project is a multisectoral humanitarian response designed to provide lifesaving assistance and protection to drought-, flood- and displacement-affected communities in Afar Region. Nexus Ethiopia is responsible for implementing the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) and Multi-Purpose Cash (MPC) components, while two sub-implementing partners under Nexus Ethiopia are responsible for other thematic sectors of the response.
To strengthen the project team and ensure effective, accountable and timely implementation, Nexus Ethiopia invites qualified, experienced and committed Ethiopian professionals to apply for this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day implementation of assigned project components and activities.
- Ensure project activities are implemented according to approved plans, timelines, quality standards and budget.
- Develop detailed activity plans and coordinate field implementation.
- Supervise project staff and provide technical and operational guidance.
- Coordinate with regional government offices, community structures and humanitarian partners.
- Ensure effective community participation and accountability to affected populations.
- Monitor project progress and identify implementation gaps and challenges.
- Work closely with WaSH, MPC, MEAL, finance, logistics and other technical teams.
- Ensure proper documentation of project activities, achievements, challenges and lessons learned.
- Support monitoring, assessment and verification of project outputs and outcomes.
- Contribute to donor and internal reporting.
- Ensure gender, protection, inclusion, safeguarding, conflict sensitivity and accountability are mainstreamed throughout implementation.
- Support coordination with sub-implementing partners and other project stakeholders as required.
- Organize capacity sharing and learning sessions among the project partners and project staff
- Attend in cluster meetings, report on ActivityInfo
- Develop human stories and impacts of the project
- Develop different tools for the project to facilitate data collection and evidence generation
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Development Studies, Project Management, Humanitarian Studies, Social Sciences, Public Health, Disaster Risk Management or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience, including experience managing humanitarian/development projects.
- Demonstrated experience in emergency response and field-level project management.
- Experience in multisectoral programming is highly desirable.
- Strong staff supervision, coordination and reporting skills.
- Experience working with local communities and government authorities in remote areas.
- Experience in Afar Region or pastoralist contexts is an advantage.
- Fluency in English and Amharic; and local language.
GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS
- These positions are for a one-year EHF-funded humanitarian project, with the possibility of extension subject to project continuation, funding availability and organizational requirements.
- Salary and benefits will be provided based on Nexus Ethiopia’s approved salary scale and applicable organizational policies.
- Successful candidates will be expected to work primarily in Afambo and Amibara woredas of Afar Region and should be prepared for frequent travel to project sites and communities.
- Candidates with demonstrated experience in humanitarian emergency response, particularly in drought, flood, displacement, WaSH, cash assistance and multisectoral programming, are strongly encouraged to apply.
