POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Public Relations is responsible for planning, directing, and managing the overall public relations, communication, and media engagement activities of FDRE MESOB. The position ensures the promotion of the organization’s image, visibility, reputation, and public awareness through effective communication strategies, stakeholder engagement, and media relations. The Director plays a key role in strengthening public trust, institutional branding, and information dissemination in alignment with the organization’s mission and objectives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement public relations and communication strategies for FDRE MESOB.
- Manage the organization’s public image and ensure consistent institutional branding.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with media institutions, stakeholders, partners, and the public.
- Prepare and coordinate press releases, public statements, newsletters, speeches, and communication materials.
- Organize press conferences, public events, campaigns, and official communication activities.
- Oversee media coverage and provide timely responses to public and media inquiries.
- Coordinate awareness creation and information dissemination activities regarding organizational services and programs.
- Supervise social media platforms, digital communication channels, and public information campaigns.
- Advise senior management on communication strategies, public engagement, and reputation management.
- Monitor public perception and recommend strategies to strengthen institutional visibility and public confidence.
- Prepare periodic reports on public relations activities, media engagement, and communication outcomes.
- Ensure effective internal communication among departments and staff members.
- Supervise public relations staff and support their professional development and capacity building.
- Ensure all communication activities comply with organizational policies and professional standards.
- Perform other related duties assigned by senior management.
About You
- BA degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Mass Communication, Communication, Political Science, or related fields with a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in public relations, media management, communications, or stakeholder engagement.
- Strong knowledge of media relations, public communication, and institutional branding.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Amharic and English. Proficiency in any other additional languages is also preferable.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Experience in managing public events, media engagements, and communication campaigns.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and digital communication platforms.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage sensitive communication matters professionally.
- Expertise in driving institutional visibility, public trust, and consistent brand messaging across print, broadcast, and digital platforms.
- Proven track record in managing press relations, organizing major public campaigns, and issuing high-level statements.
- Superior ability to manage sensitive communications, address public inquiries, and safeguard organizational reputation under pressure.
- Skilled in advising senior leadership, drafting high-impact speeches, and developing policy-aligned communication strategies.
- Demonstrated success in leading communications teams, building strategic media networks, and managing inter-departmental workflows.
- High ethical standards, unwavering integrity, and absolute impartiality, strictly adhering to the FDRE MESOB Service Code of Ethics.
- Highly proactive with exceptional attention to detail, strong time management, prioritization skills, and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
