Job Description

The Ethiopian Women Lawyers’ Association (EWLA) was established at the federal level in 1995 by female legal professionals and was registered as a civil society organization. For more than 30 years, it has been working to stand for justice and equality for Ethiopian women. It implements 5 major programs: Legal & Policy Advocacy, Right Education & Service Strengthening, Comprehensive Free Legal Aid & Holistic Support, Professional Empowerment & Legal Networking, as well as Professional Ethics & Service Quality. The Association has its headquarter in Addis Ababa, and regional branch offices in Adama, Hawassa, Bahir Dar, Gambella, Asosa, Jigjiga, Semera, and Dire Dawa. Moreover, it has established 63 volunteer committees at zonal and district levels to reach women in remote areas and launched a multilingual Toll-free Hotline center “7711” which provides services in Amharic, Afaan Oromo, and Tigrigna.

Currently, EWLA is implementing a project entitled “Amplifying Women’s Voices: Addressing Digital Gender-Based Violence in Ethiopia” in partnership with New Millennium Women Empowerment Organization (NMWEO), aiming to:

  • Amplify the voices and lived experiences of Ethiopian women, particularly influencers, to challenge harmful norms and encourage public dialogue.
  • Strengthen public knowledge of existing legal protections and highlight gaps in addressing online GBV.
  • Promote accountability and policy engagement by influencing key stakeholders and decision-makers to respond more effectively to digital GBV.

The intervention challenges harmful online behaviors, amplifies women’s voices, promotes accountability, and strengthens awareness of legal protections, directly contributing to safer digital spaces and freedom of expression for women. Young women and girls, women influencers and content creators, online audiences, and policymakers are the major targets of the project.

Therefore, a company or professional is required to produce a 2-minute video on legal content that can increase awareness and understanding of digital and social media-facilitated gender-based violence (GBV) among Ethiopian audiences. The production also aims to promote accountability and policy engagement by influencing key stakeholders and decision-makers to respond more effectively to digital GBV.

Purpose of the legal content video and audio production

  • To contribute to long-term advocacy for improved laws, enforcement, and safer digital ecosystems
    • To increase engagement from legal actors and policymakers for stronger discourse on accountability
    • To shift public attitudes towards recognizing digital GBV as violence, “not normal” online behavior

Scope of the activity

  • Produce 2-minute videos (10 different episodes) on the legal aspects of technology-facilitated gender-based violence for social media platforms.
  • Select role players
  • Provide first draft for EWLA
  • Edit the final draft according to the comments given
  • Provide the final productions

Deliverables

  • Prepare script content related to Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFG) and Legal frameworks and share with EWLA for comment
  • Produce 2-minute, high-quality (10 episodes of different content) videos
  • Share the first draft of 10 videos with EWLA for comment
  • Get approval from EWLA, edit the videos to incorporate EWLA’s comments, and submit the final draft by October 25, 2026.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in video production
  • Have a renewed license and TIN
  • Submit financial and technical documents
  • Preferably, a legal background

  1. The final date for applying is 7 consecutive days from the posting of this TOR
