Job Description

Tearfund Ethiopia is looking for an experienced Finance Manager (FM) responsible for maintaining a system of financial record-keeping to provide the Country Director, Senior Management Team, and Tearfund (regional and UK) with timely, accurate, and meaningful financial management information to enable effective monitoring and management of the programme, covering both partner programmes and field offices. In accordance with Tearfund policies, the FM will maintain sound internal and partner controls to safeguard assets, mitigate the risk of financial loss and fraud, and satisfy donor and statutory audit requirements.

As a key member of the Country’s Senior Management Team, the FM provides strategic financial leadership, ensuring that Tearfund’s financial strategy aligns with the country’s overall objectives and supports the expansion of the funding portfolio. The FM will lead initiatives in change management, process improvement, and robust financial management within the Country Programme. Serving as the primary finance business partner to the Country Director, the FM is expected to offer proactive, responsive financial support, analysis, and guidance to the Country Leadership Team.

The role requires close collaboration with regional and global finance teams to ensure effective implementation of financial policies and procedures. Additionally, the FM is responsible for the training and development of in-country finance staff and maintaining strong relationships with external stakeholders, including government agencies, donors, auditors, and banks. The Finance Manager is accountable for all accounting and financial operations, including comprehensive grant management, audits, statutory reporting, partner financial management, and financial risk management.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree and/or equivalent qualification in accounting, finance, business administration, or related discipline. Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent)
  • Extensive proven financial management experience post graduate qualification
  • Proven experience of planning and budgeting
  • Proven experience in institutional donor financial reporting and compliance.
  • Prior experience working with implementing partners
  • Proven experience of strategic planning
  • Proven experience in managing people
  • Experience in finance training for finance and non-finance professionals
  • Developing financial systems for organisations
  • Working with accounting software and online systems
  • Experience in overseeing organisational financial compliance
  • Experience supporting internal and external audits
  • Proven experience in project design and management
  • Experience of using “PS Financials” accounting software
  • Proven experience in team management
  • Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to generate financial reports and meet set deadlines with good integrity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in communicating complex financial data to non-finance staff
  • Ability to safeguard the wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults
