Main purpose of the Position

Defining, coordinating and monitoring all care and nursing related activities in the project and ensuring the daily management of the human resources, according to MSF nursing protocols, standards and procedures, in order to warrant efficiency, quality and continuity of prescribed care.

Accountabilities

Carry out the functions and tasks associated to nursing whenever required or needed, in order to optimize the resources, contributing with his/her knowledge and experience.

  • Implement all the protocols and hygiene procedures and supervise his/her team follow the same standards, in order to warrant the quality of the care and service in his/her speciality.
  • Organize and coordinate the activities of his/her team (week’s schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their performance and define and ensure the needs for training of staff, in order to ensure the coverage of the human resources needs and maintain high standards of quality.
  • Carry out and/or supervise the drug and medical equipment management (drugs orders, follow-up of the stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their quarantine, drugs consumption, etc.) in his or her department, in order to satisfy the needs of material with efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained. Ensuring that cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
  • Carry-out and/or coordinate administrative (exit-paper, transfer-paper, etc.), information and data collection (patient files, forms, statistics, etc.) tasks, and elaborate regular reporting, in order to have updated and reliable information about the day-to-day activity in the project, output/ outcome and support decision-taking.
  • Give feedback/ reports to the supervisor & medical team lead.

MSF Section/Context-Specific Accountabilities

  • Providing technical support to ensure the quality of the nursing, IPC and pharmacy related activities in NICU, ER and any other department as required
  • In collaboration with the NAM (and the pharmacist if present) ​
    • Supervise the correct (according to MSF protocols) prescription and distribution of medical items ​
    • Supervising the management of pharmaceutical commodities in their department including preparation of orders, follow up of consumption, of stock and expired items ​
  • In charge of all IPC activities including treatment and sterilization procedures of medical devices​
  • In charge of referral activities in collaboration with the MD & NAM or PMR
  • Facilitate compilation and analysis of medical data regarding patients’ health conditions, including Q/A and Q/C of data. In all departments ensure accurate and complete data collection in all registers.
  • Ensure readiness for emergency and mass casualty situations, support triage and MCI trainings
  • Plan, organize, and deliver on‑the‑job training, coaching, and refresher sessions (e.g. emergency triage, neonatal care, IPC, medication safety, use of medical equipment’s
  • Collaborate with Biomed Specialist/ Logistics to follow up maintenance of biomed equipment with support from the NAM or PMR
  • Follow up Oxygen consumption, requirements, documentation and ensure requests are made timeously to prevent ruptures
  • Follow up blood availability, storage and refill to prevent stockouts
  • Be flexible to support any department as required including Maternity for the organisation of work

About You

Education Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Bachelor of science of Nursing.
  •  Valid operating license.

Desirable:

  • Specialization or training in tropical medicine.
Experience Essential: 

  • Supervisor experience of at least two (2) years leading nursing teams in NICU & ER departments.

Essential:

  • Pharmacy management experience.
  • Experience in capacity building; mentorship, on the job training.

Desirable:

  •  Working experience in MSF , other similar NGO’s or other Public Health facilities.
Other Requirements Essential:

  • Mission language (English) with a level of C1; plus Local Language.

Essential:

  • Proficient in using Microsoft Applications and internet (word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and internet)
