Job Description
Job Purpose
– The Electro Mechanical Technician is responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation pumping systems, generators, electrical control panels, electronic systems, and automatic control units. The role ensures reliable water supply, power availability, and proper functioning of automated irrigation and electrical systems.
Main Duties and Key Responsibilities:
General Duties
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance activities
- Maintain maintenance logs, reports, and service records
- Follow safety procedures and electrical codes at all times
- Respond to emergency breakdowns to minimize downtime
- Coordinate with supervisors, engineers, and operators
Irrigation Pumps & Water Systems
- Install, operate, and maintain irrigation pump systems (submersible, centrifugal, booster, and surface pumps)
- Troubleshoot pump performance issues such as low pressure, flow imbalance, or motor faults
- Inspect and maintain valves, pipelines, pressure systems, and pump accessories
- Perform alignment, lubrication, seal replacement, and bearing maintenance
Generators & Power Systems
- Install, operate, and maintain diesel or gasoline generators
- Carry out routine servicing, load testing, and fault diagnosis
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues in generator engines, alternators, and control modules
- Ensure automatic and manual transfer switch systems function properly
Electrical Boards & Control Panels
- Install, wire, and maintain electrical boards, distribution panels, and motor control centers (MCC)
- Diagnose faults in contactors, relays, breakers, switches, and protection devices
- Ensure correct grounding, insulation, and power distribution
- Perform panel modifications and upgrades when required
Electronics & Automatic Control Units
- Install, calibrate, and maintain automatic irrigation controllers and control units
- Troubleshoot sensors (pressure, level, flow), timers, starters, and electronic modules
- Support PLC‑based or relay‑based control systems
- Ensure automation systems operate according to programmed schedules and conditions
Qualification and Skills
Education:
- Diploma or Degree in in Electro‑Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
Experience:
- 8 years of relevant experience
- Proven experience with irrigation pumps, generators, and electrical systems
- Strong understanding of motors, starters, control circuits, and automation basics
- Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
- Experience with electronic control units and sensors is an advantage
- Knowledge of safety standards and lock‑out/tag‑out procedures
