About the Role – Purpose:
Overall, the Pharmacist is responsible for ensuring the continuous availability, safe handling, and effective management of essential medicines, medical supplies, and nutrition commodities, in line with national guidelines and standards.
- This includes, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation and reporting of actions related to medicinal needs in his/her respective Woreda, In line with Concern guidelines, national recommendations and international standards. The Pharmacist is responsible for forecasting and requesting drugs and medical supplies, managing stock levels to prevent shortages or expiries and handling essential medicines, emergency kits, and nutrition commodities and efficient utilization of the organization resources.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical Support and Facilitation
- Ensure storage, classification and organization of drugs and material according to international standards
- Support in the reception, preparation and dispatching of the medical orders from the main warehouse to the Woredas.
- Estimate needs based on program drugs consumption and national recommendations
- Prepare drugs orders according to the needs and make timely requisitions to the store keeper.
- Ensure that updated stock and consumption records can be provided upon request
- Assist in development and implementation of drug consumption tools in supported facilities and mobile clinics
- Manage and reinforce the capacities of the MHNT staff on stock management, quality drugs supply system and analysis of drugs consumption
- Dispense medications according to the clinicians’ prescriptions and in line with national guidelines and advise the patient on the use of each drug.
- Be aware of possible drug interactions and advise patients on this effectively
- Ensure that all medicine, medical supplies and equipment needed for the activities are available before departure to the mobile sites
- In collaboration with Health Officer and the MHNT staff, contribute to improvement of the mobile activities by making suggestions, team discussions, observation of the activities
- Constantly Checks the expiring dates of medical supplies regarding humidity and temperature.
- Assists in the purchase preparation of medical supplies that are not available locally mainly drugs, medical instrument.
- Keeps daily and weekly stocks of all necessary items, like drugs and Health care service provision materials.
- Ensure and support the Woreda Health Office (WoHO) staff in reporting, and qua ntifying their medical supplies and equipment’s needs.
- Perform other duties assigned by the line manager for the accomplishment of programme objectives.

Person Specification:
Essential knowledge, skills and experience
- Degree or equivalent in pharmacy.
- 3-4 years relevant experience
- Good technical/programme knowledge in area of responsibility.
