Brief introduction

REACH Ethiopia envisions contributing the development and wellbeing of humanity through innovation and maximizing the utilization of opportunity available for the generation. The major goal of REACH Ethiopia is health service delivery commitment and contributing its part to improve the general health service and wellbeing of the disadvantaged community in move towards the sustainable development goal.

REACH Ethiopia is currently implementing USAID Urban TB LON and Eliminate TB Projects in 2 City Administration (Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa) and 3 Regional States (Harari, Sidama and SNNPR) to contribute toward ending Tuberculosis through finding missing people with TB to access early diagnosis, care and treatment services. There is a project funded by Stop TB Partnership – TB REACH WAVE 9 Grant – on improving the treatment outcome of DR-TB Patients in the two TICs (Alert and St. Peter’s Hospitals) in Addis Ababa.

REACH Ethiopia invites qualified and experienced applicants for Legal Advisor post who will advise and represent the organization on all legal matters on part -time basis.

Job Summary

In consultation with the REACH Ethiopia, the Legal Advisor shall provide call/parttime based legal advisory services, including writing proceedings and representing the organization on legal cases as legal cases emerge.

Responsibilities

  • Give accurate and timely counseling to REACH Ethiopia management on a variety of legal topics (labor law, ACSO proclamations, partnerships, international ventures, etc.);
  • Review and give advice on internal governance policies and regularly monitor compliance;
  • Review, evaluate and advise on different risk factors regarding business decisions and operations;
  • Provide advice to REACH Ethiopia on effective risk management techniques and offer proactive advice on possible/emerging legal issues.
  • Communicate and negotiate with external parties, regarding legal issues, (regulators, external counsel, public authority etc.), creating relations of trust;
  • Draft and solidify agreements, contracts and other legal documents to ensure the REACH Ethiopia’s full legal rights;
  • Provide clarification on legal language or specifications to REACH Ethiopia Staff;
  • Maintain current knowledge of alterations in legislation.

Requirements

  • Licensed Legal Advisor with proven experience providing legal services in a business and NGO environment
  • Demonstrated ability to develop timely and effective legal responses, including both defensive and proactive legal strategies;
  • Proven experience in handling human resources–related legal matters, including employee grievances, disciplinary actions, labor disputes, and employment compliance issues;
  • Practical experience in human resources management, enabling sound legal guidance aligned with organizational HR policies and labor laws
  • Strong experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating procurement-related contracts and agreements, including supply, service, consultancy, and other commercial contracts, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and organizational policies;
  • Who has extensive multidisciplinary experience across government, business, and non-governmental organizations, serving as a judge, prosecutor, legal researcher, and leader of judicial institutions.
  • Minimum of twenty 20 years of hands-on professional experience providing legal consultancy services to business organizations, including local and international NGOs;
  • Experience working with the Ethiopian justice sector, particularly judicial institutions;
  • Strong understanding and in-depth knowledge of the Ethiopian legal and justice system;
  • Master of Laws (LLM) degree from an accredited law school with a minimum of 15 years of experience;
  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from an accredited law school with a minimum of 20 years of experience
  • High standards of professional ethics, integrity, and confidentiality;
  • Sound judgment and proven ability to analyze complex legal situations and information;
  • Ability to present a professional recommendation letter from the current or most recent employer,
  • confirming relevant legal, human resources, and procurement contract experience.
  • Able to present certificates of work experience and professional ethics from a recognized legal institution.
