Mission description
Provision of technical assistance to the ECOTRADE Project in Ethiopia to support the design, structuring and implementation of interventions related to regional value chain integration, trade and transport facilitation, and the increased participation of women in commercial and logistics processes in support of AfCFTA implementation.
The assignment will contribute to strengthening regional supply chains in priority sectors, identifying barriers affecting trade efficiency, and developing practical strategies and recommendations aligned with national priorities and project objectives.
The expert will support assessments, strategy development, stakeholder consultations, and public-private dialogue, while also contributing to capacity-building activities, training initiatives, and documentation of results. The assignment may also include support to monitoring and evaluation, knowledge management, and coordination with the ECOTRADE team and other relevant stakeholders, in line with Expertise France and EU implementation requirements.
Project or context description
The ECOTRADE Project is a four-year initiative (2025–2029) funded by the European Union and implemented by Expertise France to support Ethiopia’s implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The project focuses on strengthening institutional capacity, promoting private-sector-led regional value chain development, supporting trade and transport facilitation, and improving knowledge systems that can help Ethiopia take advantage of opportunities created under the AfCFTA.
In this context, ECOTRADE places particular emphasis on strengthening regional value chain integration, reducing barriers affecting trade efficiency, and increasing women’s participation in commercial and logistics processes. The project also aims to support public-private dialogue, capacity-building for key stakeholders, and practical interventions that improve market access, competitiveness, and readiness for regional trade integration in Ethiopia
Required profile
The candidate should meet the following requirements:
- Advanced degree in International Trade, Economics, Business, or a related field.
- Previous experience working with partners and donor organizations.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in regional value chain development
- Proven track record in conducting assessments of regional supply chains, particularly in priority sectors related to AfCFTA.
- Experience in designing and implementing training programs and improvement plans for agricultural value chains, with a focus on empowering women-led enterprises
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and report-writing skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in English is required; knowledge of Amharic is an asset.

Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an interview. Financial terms will be negotiated with the highest-ranked candidate(s) following the technical evaluation. This call aims to recruit two experts, and separate contracts will be concluded for each selected expert.
Expertise France intends to contract directly with individuals holding the required license. Where a selected candidate does not hold such a license, the appropriate contracting arrangement will be discussed at the contracting stage.

- Candidate’s experiences linked with the expert mission
- Candidate’s expected linguistic understanding
- Assessment of the candidate’s skills in the sought-after domain
