MERSA Media Institute (MMI) is a nonprofit media support and development institute registered as a local organization by the Ethiopian Civil Society Organizations Authority. MMI works on several key areas, including media reform and law, professional development, and strengthening the institutional capacity of media organizations. The institute’s overarching goal is to promote a professional, independent, and vibrant media landscape in Ethiopia.
Position Summary
To address the growing demand for versatile media professionals, MMI is launching an intensive 14-week Multiplatform Journalism Training program. As part of our comprehensive training program, we are seeking a skilled and dynamic trainer to deliver a specialized module on Multimedia Reporting and Writing. The ideal candidate will be an experienced journalist and educator passionate about teaching modern reporting techniques that integrate text, data, and various media formats across print, broadcast, and digital platforms.
Key Responsibilities
The Multimedia Reporting and Writing Trainer will be responsible for the following:
- Deliver engaging and interactive training sessions based on MMI’s curriculum on multimedia reporting and writing.
- Prepare session plans, presentations, and practical exercises for trainees.
- Guide trainees in producing high-quality written content for various platforms, including print articles, broadcast scripts, and digital stories.
- Teach best practices for adapting writing styles for different media, from newspaper features to web articles and radio news segments.
- Provide constructive feedback and mentorship to trainees on their writing assignments and projects.
- Assess trainee progress and performance throughout the training program.
- Submit a training report detailing the training delivery, trainee performance, and recommendations for future sessions.
Requirements
- A degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in journalism, with a strong portfolio of work across print, broadcast, and/or digital platforms.
- Demonstrated experience as a journalism trainer or educator, with a proven ability to engage and mentor learners.
- Strong understanding of how to integrate text with photos, videos, and audio to create compelling narratives for different audiences.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Fluency in both English and Amharic is required.
