SVO combines humanitarian aid (community support, disaster response, social welfare via NGO partnerships), emphasizing on child development and family empowerment, with enterprise development (entrepreneurship, economic empowerment and sustainable business models) to create lasting impact in Ethiopia and regionally. Effective storytelling across both wings (humanitarian and social enterprise) is essential to engage stakeholders, build partnerships and inspire support.
Role Summary
We seek a skilled Communications Specialist (journalism background preferred) to promote SVO’s humanitarian and enterprise initiatives through compelling content, social media and multimedia. The role demands creativity, digital expertise, ethical sensitivity and experience preferably in international/NGO settings and relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and publish articles, press releases, blogs and reports highlighting humanitarian projects and enterprise successes (SEO-optimized, accessible).
- Manage and grow presence on Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, etc.: develop posts, campaigns, live updates and cross-wing promotions.
- Produce photography, videography and graphics (using Adobe Suite/Canva) for field coverage, events and promotional materials;
- Engage international platforms and networks (e.g. Donors, UN, global NGOs, media) to amplify reach; pitch stories and collaborate on cross-border campaigns.
- Leverage NGO experience for partnerships, joint content, donor reporting and advocacy.
- Monitor analytics (Google Analytics, platform insights), refine strategies and handle crisis communications with transparency.
About You
- Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Journalism, Mass Communications, PR or related field.
- 5+ years in publishing/communications/media with proven content creation and distribution success.
- Strong experience managing Twitter/X and LinkedIn, Facebook, etc. (campaign examples showing engagement growth).
- Demonstrated work experience on local and international platforms/forums and in NGOs (humanitarian/development communications preferred).
- Portfolio of photography/videography, graphic design and multimedia work (submit links/samples).
- Proficiency in publishing tools (WordPress/CMS), social schedulers (Hootsuite/Buffer), design/editing software (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro).
- Excellent English writing/editing; Knowledge of Amharic and Afan Oromo preferable.
- Analytical skills for data-driven improvements; adaptability to platform changes and resource constraints.
- Ethical judgment for sensitive topics; team collaboration and resilience under deadlines.
