Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Finance and admin Manager, the Senior Accountant prepares financial statement of the program in accordance with Plant with Purpose/Floresta Ethiopia policies and procedures in place, follow up financial documents, ledgers, journal vouchers and supporting documents are maintained and organized in accordance with the accounting system of the organization.

Closely follow up the timely collection of receivables and payment of payables and make sure that all receivables are payables are fully cleared at the end of every quarter and no balance is carried forward, verifies that closings and auditing of books of accounts are carried out in due course. Follows up the entry of project transactions in accordance with the accounting system and the preparation and communication of project financial reports as per commitments made with funding agents and pertinent financial policies and procedures of the organization, ensures that the organization books of accounts are reconciled with bank statements, ascertains that closings of books of the program is carried out in due course, make sure that no receivables and payables are outstanding at the end of the year, arranges and organizes financial documents for auditing by internal and external auditors.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review all financial commitments and payments requests to ensure compliance with Floresta Ethiopia policies and procedures.
  • Check and verify the reliability and accuracy of the payment requisition before disbursement.
  • Ensure receipts, payments and journals are properly leveled and kept in safe ways.
  • Close revenue and expenditure accounts at the end of the year
  • Reconcile all balance sheet accounts such as main cash, petty cash, payroll fund, staff debtor’s accounts and others,
  • Assisting Project Manager with the overall program accounting and taking ownership of the systems required for this.
  • Producing monthly financial reports for the program and assisting Project Managers with the production of monthly reports; including reporting on project variances of actuals vs. budgets, and updating forecasts.
  • Making suggestions on improvements to Plant With Purpose (PWP) monthly financial systems.
  • Preparation of quarterly forecasts and cash flow projections.
  • Help to educate and encourage all staff to take more responsibility over the financial aspectsof the program that they are doing and the overhead costs that they are incurring
  • Offering professional judgment on financial matters and advising on ways of improvingbusiness performance.Floresta Ethiopia, Recruitment Advertising
  • Support the work of PWP Worldwide as required
  • Arrange all financial documents for internal and external audit work.
  • Prepare timely withholding tax claim timely if required
  • Prepares appropriate classification of codes for each transaction for recording;
  • Analyzes the recording of transactions and performing posting
  • Prepare financial statements
  • Verifies that closings and auditing of books of accounts are carried out in due course.
  • Checks that financial documents, ledgers, journal vouchers and supporting documents are maintained and organized in accordance with the accounting system of the organization
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities of the work unit as assigned by the Manager

Educational Requirement, exprinces, skills, etc.

  • Second/First degree in in Accounting/ Accounting & Finance/ & Accounting Software, a Accounting and budgeting and Financial Management with 6/8 years related work experience, out of which 2 years in a senior position(s)
  • Training and skill in Quick Book accounting /certified in Quick Book / is mandatory recruitment
  • Excellent computer skills / all computer packages/
  • Experience working in NGO sector has an advantage
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Good knowledge and understanding of foreign exchange;
  • High computer literacy essential, especially for Excel;
  • Confidence and enthusiasm
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Flexible and adaptable with an ability to adapt appropriately within various situations
