Mission and objectives
The mission of UNESCO Addis Ababa is to contribute to sustainable human development in a culture of peace underpinned by tolerance, democracy, and human rights through programs and projects in UNESCO’s fields of competence: Education, Natural Sciences, Human and Social Sciences, Culture and Communication and Information. The UNESCO Addis Ababa office comprises of the Liaison office with African Union Commission (AUC ) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the National Office for Ethiopia.
Context
As the UNESCO Addis Ababa Liaison Office reaches the end of the 2022-2024 biennium and its strategic document, this review aims to assess implementation results and strengthen the strategic direction of its country and AU cooperation frameworks. This review will serve both as reflection on progress and as a forward-looking exercise to inform future programming. It will analyze achievements, challenges, and lesson learned, as well as identify opportunities to enhance impact, visibility and coherence with global and continental agendas.

Task description
Under the direct supervision of the relevant Program Specialist, the online volunteer will review, edit, and re-design the layout of the following documents to ensure clarity, consistency, and visual appeal in consultation with Heads of sectors. The review will assess the relevance, coherence, effectiveness, efficiency, sustainability, and inclusiveness of the Office’s strategic interventions, while ensuring that gender-equality, youth engagement, and innovation are adequately reflected.
1. Review, edit, and re-design the layout of the following documents to ensure clarity, consistency, and visual appeal:
• Report on Year of Education 2024
• Report of activities implemented in Ethiopia (2022-2024)
• Report of activities implemented with AU (2022-2024)
2. Support finalization of the Liaison Office’s evaluation and strategic reports, using agreed formats and templates.
3. Ensure all outputs adhere to UNESCO editorial, graphic and visibility standards, integrating relevant feedback from staff and partners.
The scope of this review will be:
• Timeframe: 2022–2025.
• Geographic Coverage: Country program in Ethiopia and UNESCO’s work with the AUC and UNECA
• Thematic Coverage: The following themes from the UNESCO, Addis Ababa Liaison Office will be covered: • Sectoral areas: Education, Culture, Natural Sciences, Social and Human Sciences, Communication and Information • Cross-cutting themes: Gender Equality, Youth, Disability Inclusion, Ethics of AI, Resilience
• Primary Users: UNESCO, Addis Ababa Liaison Office and key partners involved in strategy implementation and planning. Deliverables and Timeline The online volunteer is expected to provide a timely, quality and comprehensive report on the review, edit, and re-design the layout of reports and the strategy document listed above under the key objectives.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Advanced university degree (master’s degree or above) in communication, development studies, Monitoring and evaluation or related fields.
• Experience in reviewing, editing and producing high-quality reports and publications for UN or similar organizations
• Strong coordination, research, analytical and writing skills with de demonstrated attention to detail
• Experience in graphics design and layout, preferably using tool such as Adobe, InDesign or Canva.
• Excellent drafting and communication skills in English; knowledge of French is an asset.
