Technical Feasibility Study for Renewable of- Grid Energy Project – Job vacancy at CARITAS Switzerland (CACH), Ethiopia

Caritas Switzerland (CACH) is dedicated to combating and eradicating poverty both abroad and in Switzerland. Present in Ethiopia since the mid 1970s, CACH has been actively engaged in rural development for more than three decades. CACH focuses on strengthening the resilience of vulnerable people inter alias through improved income opportunities based on the equitable development of market systems along various value chains. CACH is registered as a Charities and Societies Agency (License # 3676).

CACH wants to hire a qualified consultancy firm on competitive basis in accordance with the term and conditions illustrated in the Terms of Reference (ToR) prepared for this consultancy service.

The objective of the consultancy is to 1) Identify target Woredas  for a new off-grid Energy Project; to 2) Identify Value chains in these Woredas which are suitable for productive use of renewable energy; and to 3) create an energy stakeholder map. Target area will be 3 Zones in Oromia (see ToR)

All tasks are expected to be done in close collaboration and continuous exchange with staff of CACH.

Job Requirements

• The consultancy firm shall have demonstrable experience (at least three years) in core areas of the consultancy work (See ToR) and present references thereof
• The consultancy firm should be able to assign at least one person with PhD/MSc in Engineering, Economics, Rural Development, or a related field
• The assigned person has In-Depth knowledge of the Ethiopian electrification landscape, including processes, actors, national and regional strategies and has Experience with off-grid productive and societal use of renewable electricity with business modeling
• The assigned person has Experience in conducting field research in southern Ethiopia
• Furthermore, understanding of data collection sensitivities, associated risk management, proven skills in statistical methods and analysis and experience in evidence based expert reporting and documentation skills are needed.
• Fluency in English and local languages and understanding of the local context are expected
