Brief Introduction
REACH Ethiopia is a non-profit local organization established and registered as an Ethiopian Residents Charity. It strives to contribute for community development through implementation of innovative and targeted project interventions to deliver quality health services for disadvantaged communities. Since its establishment in 2013, REACH Ethiopia has implemented community-based TB care interventions and integrated health service projects in Sidama, SNNP and parts of Oromia Regions.
REACH Ethiopia in collaboration with Ministry of Health is currently implementing USAID funded Urban TB LON Activity in 3 largest cities of the country; Addis Ababa, Harar and Dire Dawa. In addition it has finalized the necessary requirements and is in final preparation to implement TB LON COVID 19 Technical Assistance activity. The goal of the project is to contribute to national and regional efforts to provide vaccination to at least 70 % of the community in order to develop herd immunity.
Purpose of the position (general)
Under the leadership of the USAID URBAN TB LON Project manager, the USAID Urban TB LON / COVID 19 activity Coordinator is responsible for planning, governance and for overseeing the successful implementation and delivery of the program’s activities to achieve its intended goal. He/she coordinates the planning and provides oversight to all technical areas under the Urban TB LON COVID 19 Technical Assistance Activity.
Answerability and Position in the organization
The USAID URBAN TB LON COVID 19 Assistance activity coordinator will report to URBAN TB LON Project Manager, and S/he will collaborate closely with relevant technical teams of the project at the central and the regional level.
Duties and responsibilities
Technical leadership and project management
- Responsible for the overall project leadership and management of multidisciplinary technical teams
- Coordinates the planning, implementation, and continuous monitoring of all technical areas and admin activities of the project
- Review the plan regularly to ensure indicators and objectives are being achieved in a timely manner
- Evaluate potential problems and technical hitches and develop solutions
- Ensures the project compliance to the technical requirements of the donor organization as well as MOH policies and addresses any issues with the Executive Director/Activity manager.
- Assist Urban TB LON activity manager by performing various administrative tasks to help projects stay on schedule and within budget.
- Adhere to budget by monitoring expenses and implementing cost-saving measures
Urban COVID 19 Related activity
- Leads the design and implementation of high impact interventions tailored to Urban setups to create awareness on COVID 19, Prevention mechanisms and increase Vaccine Uptake
- Analyzes key COVID 19 vaccine uptake barriers to urban settings for tailored interventions
- Works on COVID 19 vaccine stigma reduction and community empowerment for health
- Urban health systems strengthening
- Lead the designing modalities of urban differentiated COVID 19 Vaccine Uptake modalities with specific roles and responsibilities of all actors of (UHEPs, Family Health team, Local organizations including COVID survivors’ associations, idirs, etc)
- Take an active part in the project issue/risk management process, by contributing to the identification and prioritization of existing and potential issues and risks, and helping to develop local level strategies and controls to mitigate these
Coordination and partnership
- Represent the project at national/regional forums and keep project management updated on stakeholders’ expectations and status of project achievement against expectations
- Identifies and respond to crosscutting issues in collaboration with national and regional partners
- Provides technical assistance to Heath Bureaus and the national TB control program
- Works with local organizations collaborating as TB LON partners
People and quality management
- Works with the HR team to manage staff and resources for the project.
- Supervises and inspires team members, while creating an environment where sharing, technical discussion and innovation are part of the routine practice of TB LON COVID 19 Technical Assistance Activity.
- Works with communications team to increase awareness of COVID 19 Vaccines across project implementation cities.
- Contributes to the development, implementation, and monitoring of the work plan in cooperation with M & E Manager and other senior staffs.
- Makes people the center of all endeavors by the project.
Knowledge management
- Contributes to knowledge management by identifying key results for performance improvement and communication strategies.
- Identifies areas for crosscutting collaboration with FMOH, RHBs and relevant partners.
- Enhances and anchors the in-depth knowledge of COVID 19 and Its vaccination technical areas in the technical team.
- Actively shares knowledge with the national and City COVID 19 control programs.
- Coordinates and runs events and workshops.
- Maintain personal in-depth knowledge on Covid 19 and TB control areas
Partnership and coordination
- Takes a lead in all Urban TB LON COVID- 19 activity related issues and routines, review it in collaborative with the coordination and management team and project team at all levels.
- Establishes regular communication/collaboration with Urban TB LON partners organizations, the donor, and other stakeholders.
- Consults with Urban TB LON partners to ensure that the cooperation remains firm and keep moving stronger than the anticipated goal is eventually achieved.
- Conducts additional tasks which are relevant to the organization, TB LON project, the donor by own initiative and/or as per immediate supervisors’ guidance.
Behavioral competencies and skills
- Good interpersonal skills with experience in networking with partners at all levels (government, NGOs and local community-based organizations)
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Amharic
- Computer literacy; competency with Microsoft Office, internet and email systems
- Ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with colleagues and partners
- Willingness to travel frequently within the project implementation area
- Previous experience with USG funded projects is an advantage
Contract term: Full time Position, 12 monthsFixed term contract

Job Requirements
Qualifications and Requirements
- MD/MSc, MPH/ MBA/MA in project management &/or Leadership trainings,
- Minimum of 5-year relevant work experience in Health control programming in Ethiopia.
- Proven experience in health program management of at least 3 years.
- Proven experience in leading senior management team and managing teams (Excellent).
- Proven Experience in managing COVID 19 pandemic and overseeing of COVID 19 Vaccines provision
- Solid organizational skills, including multitasking and time-management
- Familiarity with Ethiopian community health systems, policies, and strategic approaches in Ethiopia
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Amharic.
- Experience in capacity building and utilizing participatory learning methodologies.
- The ability to organize and prioritize with eye for detail.
- Willingness to locate in Addis Ababa and to travel to other cities.
