Job Description

Background on CAWEE:

The Center for Accelerated Women’s Economic Empowerment (CAWEE) was established in 2004, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as a Non-Profit, Trade Promotion, Membership organization of women in export registered under the Chambers Law, Ministry of Trade. CAWEE provides different support services to women involved in Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) with a focus to women in export.

CAWEE closely works with different development partners and funding organizations, like: Governments (USA, Canada, Japan, India, Netherlands and Germany), UNDP, UNIDO, UN Women, Mastercard Foundation (MCF) and others. Currently, CAWEE has started aggressively working on the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement, starting being operational beyond Ethiopia, with the ultimate propose of expanding the export bases within the African Continent and beyond.

In providing technical skills/marketable skills to disadvantaged women (returnees, refugees, out casted community members, internally displaced women, women with disabilities), in the past years, CAWEE has provided trainings in basic technical skills, where following the skills training, employment opportunities were created to women. Currently, CAWEE is involved in projects funded by MCF as well as GIZ Sustainable Initiative (SI) Jobs projects targeting skills provisions and facilitating decent & fulfilling job opportunities to female youth.

Program Background:

CAWEE is implementing a 5-year consortium project jointly with PETCO Ethiopia and Ethiopia Enterprise Development (EED). The program is funded by the Mastercard Foundation contract to Enable Young Women and Men to Find Dignified and Fulfilling Work in Manufacturing in Ethiopia by capacitating existing SMEs. The program aims to:

  • Build SMEs capacities to sustainably create new jobs and improve existing ones through offering tailored business capacity building and mentorship services; enhancing access to markets and raw materials flow; and improving SMEs’ human resources capacity to create safe and inclusive working conditions for young women and men.
  • Improve Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) offerings to better prepare women and youth to enter the workforce (facilitate school-to-work transition).
  • Facilitate a Robust Financial Ecosystem to help SMEs access tailored financial services that allow them to grow and increase employment opportunities for young women in particular, and to invest in infrastructure that can improve young women’s and men’s working conditions.
  • Strengthen the Enablers (Ecosystem) to foster private sector engagement, stakeholder coordination synergy, and policy development for sustainable and scalable job growth.

Job Description and Key Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for providing support in coordinating and facilitating various activities and processes within the project.
  2. Work closely with the program management team and other stakeholders to ensure efficient and effective implementation of project activities.
  3. Assist in organizing meetings, preparing reports, maintaining project documentation, and supporting communication between project staff, partners, and beneficiaries.
  4. Assist in the development and implementation of project work plans, timelines, and budgets in collaboration with the program management team.
  5. Coordinate and schedule meetings, workshops, and events related to project activities, ensuring timely communication and logistical arrangements.
  6. Prepare meeting agendas, take minutes, and follow up on action items to ensure that decisions and commitments are documented and implemented.
  7. Support the preparation and dissemination of project-related communications, including newsletters, social media posts, and website updates, to raise awareness and visibility of project activities.
  8. Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including project files, databases, and contact lists, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  9. Assist in monitoring project progress and performance against established indicators and targets, contributing to the preparation of regular progress reports for project management and donors.
  10. Facilitate communication and information sharing among project staff, partners, and beneficiaries, ensuring that relevant information is shared in a timely and transparent manner.
  11. Assist in the procurement and management of project supplies, equipment, and services, ensuring compliance with procurement policies and procedures.
  12. Support the identification and documentation of project best practices, lessons learned, and success stories, and contribute to knowledge sharing and learning initiatives within the project team and with external stakeholders.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by the program director to support the overall success and impact of the project.

This role will work closely with Program Director and He/she will also collaborate with partners and stakeholders as needed.

Reporting and Supervision:

The Project Officer will report to the Program Director

About You

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in development studies, business administration, project management or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of professional work experience in program, project development, coordination and coordinating multiple partners and stakeholders.
  • Previous experience in project coordination or administration, preferably in the development sector.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with the capacity to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English (both written and spoken); knowledge of Amharic or other local languages is desirable.
  • Demonstrated strength and experience in writing technical reports.
  • Strong computer skills Demonstrated project management experience including budget development, event planning, coordinating multiple partners and stakeholders,
