The Center for Evaluation and Development (cc) is looking for a Junior Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist at its office in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia).
C4ED is a global research center aiming at improving the lives of the poor and the vulnerable by making development interventions more effective. As a non-profit research center and registered charity with offices in East Africa, Southern Africa, West Africa, South Asia and Europe, C4ED aims to bridge the gap between research and practice in global development. C4ED currently conducts projects all over the world, with a focus on Africa and South Asia, and implements research and evaluation projects for the European Union, GIZ, IFAD, ILO, J-PAL, KfW, World Bank, WFP, UNICEF, and other UN organizations, to name just a few of our cooperation partners. With a strong focus on quantitative impact evaluations, we are one of the leading research centers in the areas of poverty, microfinance, health, education, employment, social protection, nutrition and climate change in the Global South, with a strong focus on Data Analysis and Monitoring and Evaluation.
C4ED Ethiopia is looking for a Junior Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist (JM&E) to join its team for quantitative research methods. The successful candidate will be working alongside quantitative researchers and impact evaluators on projects taking place in Ethiopia and elsewhere in Africa. While the position is based in Addis Ababa, you will be part of a globally integrated team.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
As JM&E, you will be involved in managing and conducting evaluation projects as well as supporting data analysis for the projects C4ED is carrying out. Particularly, you will:
- Contributing to (quasi)experimental impact evaluation studies and monitoring projects
- Statistical analysis and report-writing
- Provide capacity building
- Conduct and oversee large-scale data collections (incl. high-frequency data quality checks)
- Ensure project deliverables are prepared on time and are of high quality
- Closely cooperating with local partners
- Set-up monitoring systems
- Project management
- Involvement in the preparation of project and grant applications
You enjoy interacting with a wide range of individuals including clients, donors and researchers and are able to maintain good collaborations. As we are working internationally, excellent oral and written communication skills in English are essential. You will work within a growing, supportive team of experienced international researchers. The role offers a good opportunity to apply your expertise in research methodology and project management.
About You
Qualification:
- Either a PhD in Economics, Econometrics, Statistics or Social Sciences (or in final year of PhD studies); or Master’s degree and 5 years of relevant working experience.
- You have very good knowledge of impact evaluation methods:
- Experimental and non-experimental methods
- Very good Stata and/or R knowledge: Knowledge of statistical languages desirable
- Extensive experience in conducting CAPI, household and other surveys
- Experience in other M&E methods (e.g. program evaluations, monitoring systems) and survey methods would be considered a plus.
- You have analyzed large-scale survey data, applying methods of causal inference.
- Extensive experience in conducting CAPI, household and other surveys
- Preferably, you have already gained field experience and are eager to supervise large-scale household surveys in Africa and Asia.
- Skills in qualitative data collection and mixed method analysis would be a plus.
- An excellent command of English is a must.
- Very good teamwork skills and experience with working in multidisciplinary teams as well as with a wide range of individuals from researchers to donors and local partners
- Very good coordination skills, orientation to detail, multi-tasking, and ability to keep deadlines
