GIZ AU:
Since 2004, GIZ has been a reliable and trusted partner of the African Union (AU) to enhance inclusive growth and sustainable development on the African continent in line with the AU’s Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want. With around 250 staff, GIZ African Union cooperates with the AU Commission, as well as the AU’s specialised institutions and agencies, such as the Development Agency AUDA-NEPAD, at continental, regional and national level in more than 40 member states. Key areas of engagement include Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention, Governance, Sustainable Economic Growth, Health and Social Development, as well as Just Transition
About GIZ AI Made in Africa
Artificial intelligence (AI) is a catalyst for development in Africa, helping to address economic, social and environmental challenges. At the continental, regional and national levels, there is an effort to tap into the economic potential of AI in Africa and overcome development barriers through African AI applications. To support this endeavour, GIZ is implementing the AI Made in Africa project. The objective of the AI Made in Africa project is to strengthen the prerequisites for the use of AI in Africa’s economic development. With a focus on the private sector, the initiative will focus on the development of AI policy papers, survey of the African AI businesses, support to make AI data accessible to the African innovation ecosystem and contribute to continental, regional and national AI policy dialogues.
Therefore, GIZ seeks to hire a suitable Junior Advisor, AI for Economic Development.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Assist with the development and implementation of project initiatives such policy papers, African AI business survey and accessibility to AI data
- Support with the planning implementation and publication of a survey on African AI businesses.
- Assist with research and analysis on the current AI datasets in Africa and support the development of a pilot to make these datasets accessible to African businesses.
- Support the organization of AI policy dialogues including panel discussions and roundtable discussions at continental, regional and national conferences.
- Cooperate with diverse stakeholders, mainly the private sector, public sector and civil society organisations working on AI in Africa
- Facilitate administrative and logistical procedures for activities in coordination with the GIZ administration team
- Other tasks as required
About You
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Economics, Development Studies, International Relations, Business Administration, Public Policy, Information Technology, Computer Science or in a comparable subject, preferably with a focus on digital transformation.
- Strong interest in digital governance, innovation and AI policy.
Professional experience
- 2 years of experience in international cooperation and development.
- Experience assisting with research and analysis
- Exposure to project management, especially in digital transformation, digital governance or digital policy projects.
- Experience supporting the organization of events and workshops.
- Experience working collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
Other knowledge, additional competencies
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with digital tools and platforms.
